I just couldn't resist putting up this picture of little Samson as he sat nicely and waited for his Bit O Luv Bistro Beef dog treat. It's just too cute! Bit O Luv's philosophy about dogs not just being pets, but being a part of your family, goes right in line with my own.

Kids love ring pops, but the wearable lollipops aren't the healthiest of treats. Offer your child an alternative to the sticky, sugary favorite by investing in a jug of fresh squeezed juice and some ring Popsicle molds ($10). Perfect for a lil princess party or to bestow frozen jewels on the wee royalty in your home, these treats take just moments to prep and a few hours in the freezer to harden.

Admittedly, I've never been a calorie counter. Even if you're really good about reading your food's packaging, how often do you do the same for your pet? Other than checking out the ingredients of his food, I've never thought about the calories in treats I give North other than some seem like they pack quite a few .

Rather controversial but still well-loved by pups across the nation, the manufacturer of Greenies just announced today that the product will now be offered exclusively through vet hospitals and pet specialty stores. The hard treats help reduce plaque and tartar buildup, but some dogs have trouble chewing and properly digesting them . .

Let me be honest: I rarely have time to bake masterpieces with my children. Sure, we cook together and bake cookies or a cake here and there, but we are a busy bunch and there aren't enough hours in the day to get decadent in the kitchen. When I do make treats I try and make them extra special so my kids thoroughly enjoy them.

Although Samson isn't Irish (obvs), that didn't stop LilPeaPod from making her little guy some special St. Patrick's Day treats to enjoy so he wasn't left out of the celebration fun. She sent in a few photos, and describes how she made the Irish bars with one of my household's favorite ingredients: peanut butter!

There are so many tempting treats out there for pets, but it's tricky when we're drawn to ones we'd want to eat ourselves based on looks . . .

If Samson even knew what I was writing about, I bet his lil mouth would be watering – after all, he totally loved those wild-salmon yummies! Similarly, these healthy dog treats all feature a first ingredient that's surely also number one on your dog's list: meat. Each variety features three skinny layers of codfish (rich in vitamins A and D and omega 3s and 6s) and two thick ones of actual meat blended with sweet potatoes (high in potassium).

As a kid growing up in the Reagan administration, I couldn't understand why the President was so fond of jelly beans when he could have any candy in the world. But to each his own and as a result, Jelly Belly makes a patriotic mix of their sugary sweets. Celebrate democracy with your lil darlings and reward their good behavior at the polls today with an appropriate treat.

OK, OK, I've got a sweet tooth. I could pass up fries or other savory snack, but show me a cupcake or some ice cream . .
