Don't Forget This If You're Bringing a Pet to Work . . .

In honor of Take Your Dog to Work Day and, for those of you participating in this holiday or lucky enough to bring your pooches to work every day, I've got a couple tips for making their office visits go swimmingly.

Puppy Proof the Place Nothing sours the experience like something unexpected . . . and bad. Make sure you keep trash and food out of the way of your pup and ask others to do the same. Check around for wires, poisonous plants, and anything else you think they can get their noses into.

Prep Your Pooch Make sure your pup is up-to-date on all those important vaccines and has a clean bill of health. It's a big day so give him a bath, special grooming treatment, or new collar so he looks spiffy.
Pack a Doggie Bag Let your doggie feel at home by bringing along a travel pack with toys, treats, food, and some pet-friendly cleanser . . . in case of accidents. It doesn't hurt to include a pet first-aid kit, too!
Pick Feeding Times and Safe Spots Choose a time to feed a pet to result in potty breaks at convenient times. If this is a one-time deal, I'll bet there will be co-workers lining up to take him out to do his business . . . if only to stretch their legs! Also, on the reverse, be mindful that not everyone loves your pets as much as you to do – keep an eye on him so he's not being a pest. You can even bring his crate into the office if he travels that way to work – he'll feel right at home in no time!
Plan Your Grand Exit If it's his first day on the job, make sure he seems content. If at any time he looks stressed, fearful, or is misbehaving, have a backup plan to get him home. Make sure you know what he's up to – and what he can handle in terms of noise, strangers, and distractions – and that you plan accordingly for any lunch/ coffee breaks. Having him half the day works, too!

The Bark's Top Four Dog-Friendly Workplaces

I'm a huge fan of The Bark magazine, not only because it's based here on the West Coast, but they consistently report great info and news for dogs and their owners. In this month's issue – just in time for Take Your Dog to Work Day coming up on June 20 – Bark dug into the nation's most pet-friendly workplaces and came up with their top four faves. Not only does this story have me wanting to make a little space for North by my desk here at Sugar HQ, but it also has me saying "Awww!" since you know that both owners and pets have a blast at work every day!

Amazon: Anywhere from 24 to 36 dogs come to work daily at the Seattle, WA, headquarters. Owners must first register their pups and agree to rules like keeping vaccines up to date and staying on a leash - unless they're in their office, of course.
Healthwise: This Boise, ID, company that employs around 200 people have welcomed pets in the office since day one in 1975. Doggies must adhere to a "three-strikes" rule, ensuring that problem pooches get adequate warning before being booted. But with the miles of hiking trails that surround the complex, the pups seem to be too content (or just too tired) to cause trouble.

Replacements, LTD: You would think that a 12,000-square-foot warehouse containing tons of china, crystal, and collectibles would be no place for dogs, but Replacements' founder, Bob Page, begs to differ. With people coming into the showroom just to visit the dogs, it must be good for business! Bob makes sure that his employees' pets' behavior remains their responsibility by recommending training for naughty doggies, then allowing them back to the office in three months. Kind of like dog probation, right?
Ben & Jerry's: The ice cream giant's headquarters in South Burlington, VT knows their 15 office dogs by name, and often introduces them to touring guests right alongside the employees. The dog-friendly environment is so therapeutic, that one Ben & Jerry's employee who was afraid of dogs before starting, has since become a dog lover and adopted two golden retrievers of her own!

Robert Pattinson Talks Confidence and Doggie Love in Parade

Robert Pattinson's Remember Me comes out on Friday, and his fans are so excited to see their favorite actor take on a serious leading role post-Edward Cullen. He chatted with Parade about confidence with girls, revealed what it was like to lose his beloved dog, and defended New Moon director Chris Weitz, who had his own self-criticism to share with Buzz last week. We got our first peek at a trailer for Eclipse and debuted the first segment of our contest to interview Pattinson - lots of Rob today! Here are some highlights from part one and part two of the Parade article:

On confidence: "When it comes to the opposite sex, I'm not as fully confident as the guy I play. I don't even remember the last time I asked someone out on a date, like, just went up to them and that's the first thing I did. I'm much more self-conscious and not wanting to fail. So I tend to hold back."

On knowing what it's like to lose a loved one: "I keep talking about my dog all the time. It was an incredible dog, and I said in an interview recently he was the most important person in my life. My family went crazy with me for saying that. But, however ridiculous it may seem to some people, my relationship with my dog was a defining moment. Having the dog die was, literally, like the worst day of my life. It was like losing a family member."

On reading reviews: "I didn't like the way New Moon was treated by the critics. I think it was reviewed in the context of just being a big franchise movie. When something is so hyped, inevitably, there is a backlash against it. I think Chris Weitz is an amazing director. I really enjoyed the film. So the naysayers kind of annoyed me."

On putting out an album: "I kind of want to do one at the end of the year. All my friends are recording albums and I'm very annoyed about it. But I can't do two things at once. I don't know how people like Jennifer Lopez can act and also sing. I'm just like, 'I can't.' But, hopefully, I'll find some time to get it together."

On Pierce Brosnan: "We went out to dinner in a restaurant full of all these guys who looked like bankers or brokers. They didn't recognize me, but they recognized Pierce. And he said, 'Notice those people looking over?' I'm sitting there getting more and more self-conscious, even though I didn't realize they weren't looking at me. Suddenly, Pierce got up and introduced himself to everybody in the restaurant. At first I was like, 'What are you doing? You're like completely insane.' But it worked. Everybody just relaxed and stopped staring and you could tell they were going to go home and say, 'Pierce is such a nice guy.'"

Get Fit For 2010: Favorite Workout

This week's challenge for the Get Fit For 2010 giveaway is to share a workout that works for you. Here's why FitSugar reader acfreema adores morning workouts.

Spinning class is the BEST possible way for me to get my week started. The Monday morning teacher is super tough. I tackle sprints, hills, intervals, standing, sitting, climbing and sweat a ton all before 7 a.m. It makes me feel like anything else I'll encounter during the day will be a piece of cake. After the class, I have to take lots of time to s-t-r-e-t-c-h or I'll be hobbling up the stairs later.

Once it warms up, I change spinning up for nice long sunrise runs. There's a bike trail near my house, and as soon as it's not dark out anymore in the morning I'll be able to head out with a running mix on my iPod. I see the same cute elderly couple walking their dog, a few other runners that I'm on "waving" terms with, and for a special treat I stop at Starbucks for a nice iced latte for my cool-down walk.

For me, heaven = early morning exercise.

Astrid App For Android Phones Keeps You Organized

Create a fun, personalized to-do list with Astrid, an Android app that manages deadlines and priorities. The free app, which creators tote as a "task recording dashboard," not a to-do list, organizes tasks by priority, date, and time. To create a reminder, enter the task - anything from "walk the dog" to "pick up boyfriend from airport," a date and time, and tags like "important," "not important," "bills," or "work." There's even a field to enter how long the task will take to help you schedule your time most productively.

You can set fixed reminders ("Pay credit card bill!") or just add one-time events. You can also turn on reminders so the app pings you either before a task is scheduled, at the time it's scheduled, or as the "absolute deadline" (another field you can fill in) has passed. The reminders are cute and cheeky, too: "When you have a minute: Clean out your inbox," for example. Other useful features are the ability to hide tasks until a certain day and a completion meter that gives a visual representation of how much progress you've made on task-completion.
