Happy Halloween From North!

Seems only fitting that my little food scavenger was fitted up as a pirate! Thanks to my mom, North didn't have to go costume-less today - and he thought not one, but two ensembles last year meant he would have a break in '09?! Not quite, little boy. Next week, we'll be rounding up all of your costumes so, if you're snapping pics, add them to the group. Happy Howl-o-ween and Meow-lo-ween everybody!

Famke and Licorice's Big Bike Adventure in the Big Apple

Well hello there, Licky, how I've missed you! The now-8-year-old pooch tried out a different fitness routine - biking. There's been some recent news out in California about banning even recreational cyclists from ~~walking~~ running dogs due to the dangers presented to nearby pedestrians, but this pup seems to be in the clear for people territory.

Personally, I haven't ridden a bike since undergrad (save a couple vacation afternoons) and know my crazy yet scaredy cat pooch would not be too fond of running alongside something like this, even if I wanted to test it out. Have you ever tried this fitness routine, either for a quick trip or a lengthy excursion? Super-Cute Video: This Pup Can't Get a Leg Up

This smooshy has rolled over and, sadly, he can't get up again. He does have a rather large rumbly tummy to roll on over and, swing as he might, he can't quite maneuver back onto all fours. No matter how often I watch this video, I'm convinced this time he actually may make it!

The Scoop: Gerard Butler in the Middle of a Dog Fight

Nope, not a cat fight - the sometimes heartbreaker Gerard Butler had a furry run-in with the law in NYC on Monday. TMZ is reporting more details on the dog fight involving the actor's smooshy, who we've glimpsed frequenting the set of The Bounty (along with fan fave, Norman).

Gerard's off-leash Lolita was allegedly attacked street side by a Greyhound, Mayfly, which caused the actor to push away the offending animal . . . and later bring his Pug to a vet for injuries. Although the Greyhound's owners claim that Gerard smacked one of their dogs without cause, no charges have been pressed and all the involved pups are OK.

I understand the illegality of having a pup off leash but, as someone who's had her dog attacked unprovoked as a puppy, it's a split-second reaction and a scary thing for all parties involved - do you think there's more to this story? "Oooh, Scooter, Daddy's gonna be mad!" Um, yeah, I'd say. This owner came home to quite the pleasant ~~surprise~~ disaster - not to necessarily cite this as pro-crate-training evidence, but I know I'd look into it after one day of cleaning up this mess. Sound familiar?

Breaking News: RIP, Monk - Q-Tip's Boston Terrier!

It's a sad, sad day for smooshy lovers as rapper Q-Tip tweeted today the death of his Boston Terrier, Monk:

Monk my dog has passed on. . . . He was a warrior. He had a brain tumor and cushings disease. Miss u already buddy . . .

Named for the Jazz great, Thelonious Monk, I remember this pooch from his appearance on the Martha Stewart Show earlier this year. You know the one where she "crafted with both Q-tips." Check out the pup's scene below.

"Boston Terror" Chronicles: North Vs. TubNub (and Microfiber Towel)

Although I like to think North is pretty neutral to bath time, his pals at Wag Hotel tell me he loved the hydromassage he got on his last stay. In an attempt to recreate that at home, I tested out the FURminator TubNub ($13) on my pooch. A rubbery tool with nubs to massage a pet, work in the shampoo, and stimulate hair follicles during bath time, North seemed to enjoy this easy massage and it left my other hand free to hold him steady.

I finished up his bath time with this Microfiber Towel ($18) - pretty and green, it was barely damp after I dried him off! Check out the products up close, and see how well they cleaned North's fur below!

Just in time for someone's birthday this month (and by someone, I mean he's got four legs, is black and white, and goes by the name of North), I can give us both a b-day pressie and order one of these adorably original Boston Terrier art prints straight from Rubenacker's Etsy Shop to hang on my wall.

Good news for you non-Boston owners: Rubenacker doesn't only craft Boston Terrier prints (there are some other smooshies making an appearance, as well as a number of other breeds), although I happen to be a little partial, naturally. Ranging in price from $11 to over $100 dollars, there is something for everyone.
