Pampered Pals: Auntie Em's Bunny Biscuits!

Sometimes it seems like dogs and cats get all the love with cute and crazy products all over the place! I love spreading the love to our other furry friends, and freely own up to my soft spot for rabbits I've recently met or known in the past.

I was psyched to spot these bunny yummies in six varieties. Although the flavors range from Very Berry to Tasty Carrot, the main ingredients in all the snacks are oat, brome, and orchard grasses – the only sweet difference is the addition of organic fruits or veggies. I can't resist ordering one of these take-out boxes ($5) as a welcoming gift for my newest lagomorph friend!

This Ain't No Silly Rabbit: Bunny Saves Family From Fire

You usually hear heroic tales of dogs rushing to the rescue of their owners from seizures, accidents, and fires, but this is one story you don't hear everyday, and one that CoralAmber just had to share with me. A Melbourne family was rescued from a house fire by their pet bunny named "Rabbit", who alerted them of the trouble. How the heck did a rabbit do that, you ask?

The Finn family lets their six-month-old rabbit roam freely around the house, only locking him up when guests arrive. So when Rabbit was heard frantically scratching at Gary and Michelle's bedroom door, they knew something was up. A fire had been spreading throughout their newly renovated home, and was quickly approaching their bedroom. Rabbit's scratches got them all out of the house safely with only mild smoke inhalation. I know first hand how smart rabbits are, so I'm not completely surprised that these little creatures can be lifesavers! Thanks CoralAmber for the tip!

How Long Are Those Recordbreaking Ears?

We've seen some pretty amazing animals on this site, from quite possibly the world's oldest dog to a recent title for balloon popping. I've found a few record-winning ear lengths and had to see if you'd beat my surprise at how expansive lobes can be! For good measure, I also added in some Guinness Record-holding goat horns . . . bonus. There are pictures, too, so see how you measure up!

The Scoop: Dog Adopts Baby... Rabbits!?

My heart is aching from all the cuteness! Not only have we seen some big hearted pups like Hei Zi, Echo, and Lilly taking to piggies and sets of "pittens" like their own, now Ellie, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in Sussex, England has given new life to a set of baby rabbits after their mother was found dead in her owner's garden. It really has me wondering what other animals dogs have adopted right under our noses – do we have any dogs befriending ducks out there? Gerbils, perhaps?

Bare Bones: Toys For Your Small Animal

Apparently it's toy mania here on PetSugar, 'cause I have yet another toy post for you today! With so many of you letting me in on your pet's toy collection, I think it's safe to say we have the doggies and kitties covered. But what about the little guys? I know there are more than a few rabbits, ferrets, and gerbils out there (to name a few) so they shouldn't be left out of the playtime fun. I've rounded up a few of my fave small animal toys, including this cute Race Track ($14) for hamsters! Just put your little critter in a specially matched toy car (complete with a running wheel) and off he goes — exercise plus fun equals one happy hamster!

Have you ever walked into an animal shelter and wanted to take every single one of those little guys home with you? It's so sad knowing that a lot of them won't make it to a forever home. Becoming a foster parent can help by taking the animals out of the shelter and increasing their chances of survival but, because of monetary constraints, it's just a fact of life that shelters can't always get the food and vaccinations they need. Bare Bones: Eglu Rabbit Hut

I mentioned before how my old roomie's rabbits, Toby and Stella, would run around the house hiding in various places, however, taking them outside was a whole other adventure on its own! Even though they got their exercise indoors, they needed to get some fresh air outside, too. At the time, we didn't know there were leashes for animals other than dogs (but I think my mom has a chicken-on-a-leash story I'll have to tell you sometime). So we would piece together a makeshift wire barrier and lug their crate downstairs for them to play in. I already shared my love for the idea of chickens in this crate, but what about bunnies, too? For $500 you can get one with its own run ($400 without) — this durable, weather-resistant igloo can stay outdoors all year round in temperate climates, which would have been great so we didn't move their hut every time we took them outside. Bonus, the top comes off so you can give it a nice cleaning, and there's even a place for their water bottle and hay rack. Plus, when the official run is attached (instead of that makeshift one), the fluffy pals can run around safely without you having to keep a close eye on them! Although, Toby and Stella seemed to find trouble anywhere . . .

Bare Bones: Hide-A-Way Hut

Once, I lived with a roommate that had rabbits. Although they were totally cute and cuddly, they did not want to cuddle at all. In fact, they loved to hide inside their cage, but mostly around the house. I found it especially funny to come home and find one of them hiding in my clothes basket, burrowed under all my clean clothes. I just took it as a sign that they liked me, even if they didn't want me to touch them!

So when I saw this Hide-A-Way Hut ($6) from Pet Gadgets, I thought of 'ole Toby and Stella. Those little guys would have loved to hide in this grass woven nest, not only to rest, but probably to chew as well. Thankfully, since the fibers are all-natural, they can get away with it. At least it's not your power cable!

Bunny Love!

I looooove bunnies. This precious duo came out for Santa Barbara's Bunny Festival last weekend. Lucky rabbits – there were carrot eating contests, pampering massages at "Spa Bunne," and even the Bunny Olympics where agility trained rabbits did hurdles, obstacle courses, and even played basketball! I still haven't worked out in my head how a bunny could play anything resembling basketball but, since I wasn't able to make it, I'll take their word for it.

The event is put on by Bunnies Urgently Needing Shelter (B.U.N.S.), a crucial volunteer organization to help abandoned rabbits. So many people adopt baby rabbits then realize they don't have the patience to care for them once they grow up. As when choosing any pet, make sure you have enough energy to dedicate to their needs.

The problem with abandoned bunnies has gotten so serious in some cities (San Francisco, included) that there are city ordinances prohibiting the sale of rabbits. Unless you have the space and time to dedicate, be like me and do your bunny admiring from afar!
