OK, so maybe you don't buy into all the teensy piggie hype. I hear ya — some animals that reach "fad" status, especially those praised for tiny, teacup sizes, can have health issues or be discarded. .

Pigs are really having their moment, wouldn't you say?! Especially with those micro pigs over in the UK, seems that baby oinkers are photogenic superstars lately. Case in point with these lil ones — check out the interesting feeding process by zoo visitors.

It's a pig party! Now we've seen cute little oinkers here, before but the latest pet craze over in the UK are micropigs, bred down from a mixture of the miniature potbellied pig, Tamworth, Kune Kune, and Gloucester Old Spot varieties. Fanciers say they can be easily litter-box trained, grow equivalent to a medium-sized dog (45-60 pounds), and are fine for allergy sufferers since they have hair not fur.

Pygmy hogs, described by one conservationist as shy and "enigmatic," stand only 10 inches tall and weigh only about 13-20 pounds. Few are thought to exist in the wild.
"The practice of indiscriminate dry-season annual burning and uncontrolled livestock grazing," said conservationist William Oliver, "threatens the last surviving wild population of pygmy hogs in Manas [National Park in Assam, a northeastern state in India] and, if continued, will doubtless also affect many other threatened and sensitive grassland species."

Kingsford the house piglet seems to rule the roost, even though he's so little he seems to get lost in the carpet! Watch as he sucks on his bottle, harasses the house cat, and takes a trip to the beach. Oh, Kingsford.

Attention, attention, new puppy alert! Kelly Osbourne has been spotted over the last couple weeks with this lil furball! The Shiba Inu already has her (his?) wings taking plane trips with mom.

I never thought I'd actually see a pig fly, but I guess anything's possible! Fairgoers in Melbourne, Australia have been seeing pigs fly for the past nine years during the annual Royal Melbourne Show that takes place in September. During the exhibition, pigs compete in races and diving contests to see who is top pig.

If anyone gets me off my bacon habit, it's going to be this ridiculously cute and smart pig, Mudslinger. I love him almost as much as Arnold Ziffle, the little stamp-collecting pig from one of the best shows ever made, Green Acres. (On a side note, Mackenzie Phillips and Lori Petty on the same show?

Animal rights activists PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has released a highly unsettling, undercover video that shows the mishandling of pigs on an Iowa farm. Among other things, in the clip — which I couldn't watch all the way through — workers hit female pigs with metal rods and slam piglets on a concrete floor. The farm supplies pigs for pork giant Hormel, who has acknowledged the abuses as "completely unacceptable."

As Emeril Lagasse would say — BAM! The look on that duckling's face is priceless.
