Do You Need an Electricity-Generating Leash?

I never remember to charge my phone. So much so that a friend bought me a car charger for my birthday in the hopes that it'd help me have more power. I tried making it my new year's resolution this year, too. Both failed. However, a new prototype product could be just what I need! While currently the electricity-generating leash only causes light illumination as the flexi style goes in and out, I'm inclined to agree with the Wired editors that a USB port would push its utility over the edge to a must-have item for my oft-drained iPhone while looking for the closest dog park or entertaining my pooch with a faux squeaky. What's your take?

I Need Your Help . . . Must Two Dogs Equal Two Leashes?

Whether it's double trouble or two times the fun, two pups definitely provide twice the tangles when being walked together. I'm a fan of tandem leashes (like this one) in theory, but I've never had to hook North up with another furry friend.

Mickey Rourke took a stroll with his traveling chihuahua Jaws in New York's West Village earlier this week, and was seen leading his pooch with a very purple and very leopard-spotted leash. I knew Mickey was into fashion, but who knew this guy was such a trendsetter?

Sure, purple leashes have been around the block a few times already, but this pattern looks veeery similar to a Louis Vuitton scarf that I've seen around town. Has Mickey got his hands on a custom-made leash?

It's possible, especially with all the fashion shows he attended this year! But in the meantime, you can follow Mickey's lead (literally and figuratively) and pick up a similar Purple Leopard Harness and Leash ($40) I found online, and set the trend in your town.

Shine a Light on Your Dark Walks

It never hurts to have some extra light when walking in the evening. Even if your nighttime walks stay on city roads with plentiful lamps, the Leash Light ($10) can illuminate the sidewalk and street to show cracks and bumps and make you a bit more visible to traffic, too.

Mischa and Ziggy Take a Flexi(ble) Flight to The Beautiful Life

What better flying companion than a pooch! Mischa Barton took off from LA with best pal, Ziggy, on their way to begin filming The Beautiful Life in NYC.

Sadly we can't see the surely stylin' collar, but I do spot what looks like an older model Flexi for her tiny Tibetan Spaniel - the retractable leads come in a rainbow of colors with cord or tape models available. Since they're in public, Mischa keeps the pooch on a short leash, but these range up to 26 feet long! Found! Follow Thurman Murman's Super Stripe Lead

You don't need to see this handsome fella's mama to recognize him, right? The ever-stylish Thurman Murman has yet another pretty leash as he leads Rachel around the streets of LA.

If your doggies at home look up to Thurman for fashion inspiration, pick up a Super Duper Stripe Dog Lead, which comes in two sizes (5/8 inches and one inch wide) for 39 bucks. If you're not loving his Sky Blue version, there are other pretty palettes.

Meanwhile, back in LA, R-Bils seemed to have a wardrobe malfunction of the shoe variety. Check out her walking her cute pooch . . . but carrying her shoes in the end. Barefoot on the sidewalk, better than barefoot in the park, right?

Q: Although we're working on training, my 100-pound dog still sometimes pulls on the leash. Since I'm not that much bigger than he is (weight-wise), I'm always worried I'll drop the lead. Do you have any tips on getting a better grip?

A: I'd definitely recommend to handle that leash with both hands since two's better than one. Remember to hold the looped part of the leash in the hand on the opposite side of your pet – right hand at the top to walk a dog on your left side and vice versa. One way to keep better control over pulling is to put the hand on the "dog-side" in the middle of the leash (as illustrated here). It allows twice the grip and the ability to control motion since you can use this hand to hold or redirect a pet to stay on the side you want him on.

There's a new collar in town from Wonderdog – hello, little Birdie. No tweet tweeting here but your pup (who's naturally getting a new collar for his Spring collection) should go cuckoo for these three items.

Featuring blue birds, red birds or pink birds, I love the contrasting background colors for each, sure to pop on coats of all colors. My only complaint: no harnesses for my smooshy . . . but they've got matching leashes ($36) to make high-flying sets for all the collar-wearers out there.
