The Beauty Bus Brings Joy to People Who Need It

Earlier, I asked if you brake for beauty buses, and most of you said you did. Here's another reason you will want to: the Beauty Bus Foundation. This kind of beauty bus operates a bit differently than most. It's a nonprofit organization that provides free in-home treatments like haircuts, manicures, and facials to chronically and terminally ill clients. They even offer up the same services to primary caregivers, too.

The Beauty Bus Foundation was created by two women whose cousin and sister, Melissa, was terminally ill. Before she died at the age of 28, she found great pleasure in receiving at-home beauty treatments while she was ill. Recently, OPI announced it will sponsor the First Annual Beauty Drive in LA, an event including beauty stations, a silent auction, and hair show, in which 100 percent of the proceeds raised will go directly to the foundation. A Closer Look at the Fashion for Relief Auction

A star studded Fashion for Relief catwalk show kicked off London Fashion Week last month with a bang. There were appearances from Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and Erin O'Connor amongst many more. However, the fundraising did not end there as most of the pieces featured in the show are now to be sold off on Net-a-Porter. The sale will raise money for the White Ribbon Alliance which is helping mothers and babies in Haiti. I was lucky enough to get a closer look at the pieces whilst they were being shot at Fashshot studios. Watch this short video to find out more about the pieces and London Fashion Week in general.

Topshop for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer

La mode continues to be charitable this season as the latest Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign is launched at Topshop. This season a jersey vest has been created with a heart print that reads 'Love to Love'.

The item launches in-store and online on 29th March and will retail for £16 (with £5 from every vest sold going to the charity) and will be available in black and white. Charity pin badges and friendship bracelets will also be available.

The campaign originally launched in 1996 and has raised over £10.5 million for Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s vital research, campaigning and education work. It's such an easy (and stylish) way for you to do something charitable. Will you be buying this vest?

Toms Shoes Brings New Collection to Neiman Marcus

Combining fashion and philanthropy is a popular practice in the adult clothing world, so it is no wonder that the idea has worked its way down to the mini set. When we first introduced you to TOMS Shoes, the small company was just starting its mission of donating one pair of shoes to a child in need whenever a pair is purchased.

Four hundred thousand donated pairs of shoes later, the company has teamed up with luxury retailer Neiman Marcus to debut an exclusive new collection of rubber soled, slip-on canvas shoes. The fashionable and fun new styles include camouflage, madras and glitter for lil twinkle toes and range from $44 - $60. Being philanthropic has never been so fashionable.

People around the globe have been opening their pockets to help lend a hand to the crisis in Haiti in some pretty high tech ways - donating by sending text messages, recycling old cell phones, and buying apps to help make a difference. But if you're in need of a new iPhone case, and are still trying to figure out a way to donate, you're in luck. Fitness Charities Mobilize For Haiti Disaster Relief

It's been heartbreaking to watch the news come in from Haiti this week. Since the devastating earthquake hit the already struggling country last week, there have been more than 50 aftershocks, with two more striking on Thursday. Like so many of you, I immediately sent a donation via a text message to the Red Cross, but I have been touched to find out how many people are mobilizing in their own way to help, including those in the fitness community.

While searching the web, I came across the blog Run 4 Haiti, one man's effort to raise money for Haiti disaster relief. As soon as the earthquake hit, Clint Johnson decided that he would run the PF Chang Rock 'n Roll Marathon for this cause. He did it without training or ever having run a marathon before. In just three days Clint had his site up and running and was able to raise close to $4,000.

Curious, I decided to see if anyone else had Clint's idea, and I was touched to find out that he was not alone. Actor Josh Duhamel is teaming up with the Red Cross to organize Youth Run 4 Haiti, a two-mile charity run on the Santa Monica beach this Saturday. Runners participating in next week's ING Miami Marathon and Half Marathon will be able to donate their entry fee to charity and/or join Team World Vision, which has been providing aid to Haiti since the hurricanes of 2008. There are also smaller events being organized, like the 80 for Haiti charity cycling event in San Diego, CA, and Help Haiti Run in Morristown, NJ. Even YogaDork is getting in on the action with its Design a Tee For Haiti Disaster Relief contest.

If you're wondering how your passion for fitness can also benefit the Haiti earthquake relief effort, do a little research around your community - chances are there might already be an event happening. If not, see if you can coordinate with your local gym to host an event or piggyback on any races or marathons in your area and see if they will consider turning it into a charity event. Also, don't underestimate your own power to organize a fitness-themed charity event. You can also ask individuals to sponsor your own efforts like Clint Johnson did - every little bit helps. And as is the case with any charitable organization, do your background research so you know that your funds are going to the right place.

Rachel Bilson Designs For Charity

Rachel Bilson recently used her fashion designing skills to help out the nonprofit Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF). Touched by a visit to Botswana and South Africa to learn more about the diamond mining industry, the actress designed this sweet Leather Bracelet ($100) to help purchase student housing for the CIDA City Campus in Johannesburg (Africa's first free university). This bracelet is a far cry from the per usual charity tee. It's simple and chic - the leather cords are ideal for everyday wear, and the diminutive diamond adds a smart, conscious touch. Faboo.

Cool Idea: Craft Hope For Haiti

Looking for more ways to support the rescue efforts in Haiti? Now, you can buy handcrafted goods while also giving to charity, thanks to the Etsy Shop Craft Hope. All of the crafted items in the shop, including art, home goods, quilts, children's goods, and more, have been generously donated by the crafting community, with the entire proceeds of the Craft Hope Etsy shop benefiting Doctors Without Borders in Haiti.

Sarah, one of the wonderful women behind Craft Hope, writes:

Jade and I started this effort as a quick offshoot of Craft Hope because we wanted to help and knew that sending things was not a viable option. We hatched a little idea about the shop on Etsy and figured we’d raise a few hundred dollars. We had this pie in the sky idea that we’d maybe get to $5,000 eventually. You all got us there by yesterday at noon. As of now, we’re rapidly approaching the $10,000 mark. Amazing. Overwhelming.
