Don't leave your grills (or pets) unsupervised at any outdoor parties! Have some extra sticks and balls to distract him from hovering around the BBQ and your yums. If your speedy pup grabs something piping hot, or gets too close to the grill, you should have a plan, and supplies, to treat paw burns.

There is nothing that I love more than Southern barbecue, so when I heard that the Bay Area Barbecue Cook-Off was being held this weekend, I eschewed any social engagements in favor of firing up the 'cue. It was a perfect day for the event with clear blue skies, live country music, and some of the best barbecue around. Here are a couple of highlights.

I'm with the majority: I love barbecue sauce. Not just any barbecue sauce, but homemade finger-licking good barbecue sauce. Every Summer, I end up making some random recipe and become totally obsessed with it.

During the Summer, my favorite fast and easy dinner is barbecued chicken. The combination of juicy, succulent meat with the sweet, smoky, sticky sauce is utterly divine.

Though it's hard to beat Michael Mina's recipe for pulled pork sandwiches, "pulled" isn't the only way to do pork. Another popular variation in North Carolina (or in this case, at Sandra Dee's Barbeque in Sacramento, CA) is chopped pork, wherein slow-cooked meat is cut into bite-size chunks and dressed in a sweet, vinegar-based sauce.Sandra Dee's serves barbecued pork loin on a French roll, with a side of sauce to drizzle or pour to your heart's content. The restaurant also grills the bread, which is a nice touch, though I'd also add some slaw on top.
