For nine years, Kelly Ann Walz kept the black bear she called "Teddy" as a pet, raising it from cubhood at her hilltop menagerie where she also cared for a mountain lion and tiger.
On Sunday night, she went into Teddy's 15-by-15-foot steel and concrete cage, throwing a shovelful of dog food to one side to distract the bear while she cleaned the other side. "She's done it 1,000 times," said her friend and neighbor, Scott Castone.

That's right...the nemesis of my yorkies...that pesky opossum who refuses to find a place to live out on his own and mooches off of us! I just took this picture while my dogs were trying to jump up to get him from the fence. (Did I mention they are yorkies and my fence is six feet tall?

Clouded Leopard Neofelis nebulosa
This beautiful Asian cat, named for its spotted coat, is seldom seen in the wild, and its habits remain a bit mysterious. Clouded leopards roam the hunting grounds of Asia from the rain forests of Indonesia to the foothills of the Nepali Himalayas. Though little information is known about their population sizes, they are considered a vulnerable species.

The article I read said that this lion had been released into the wild a year ago and these were his handlers checking on him to see if he was doing ok. Supposedly the other lion is a wild one that has never had human contact before. I just LOVE how the lion is like "OMG, it's YOU!!"

I have four Yorkies, which means I have four little noise-makers who look for reasons to bark. This morning, I arose to a clatter on the rooftop...it wasn't Saint Nick...but a pesky squirrel trying to look in from the skylight! Of course, my four-legged friends went nuts, but the nutty squirrel didn't budge!

LONDON - Conservationists should "pull the plug" on giant pandas and let them die out, according to BBC presenter and naturalist Chris Packham.
"Here's a species that, of its own accord, has gone down an evolutionary cul-de-sac," Packham told Radio Times magazine.
Packham believes that money spent on conserving the panda would be better invested in other animals as the species is not strong enough to survive alone.

A cougar living for the past fortnight in a park in the US city of Seattle has been captured by wildlife officials and set free in the wild. The big cat was caught about 0240 local time on Sunday (0930GMT) after it was spotted by an employee at a cultural centre in Discovery Park.
Tracker dogs chased it up a tree and a wildlife agent tranquilised it.

FORT WORTH — Something crazy is spreading across Texas, and it may be so destructive that one day it will make Texans actually miss the hated fire ant.
Crazy ants, so named because they move in all directions rather than in a straight line, first surfaced in Houston seven years ago and had previously been confirmed in 14 Southeast Texas counties as far north as Huntsville.
Now the ants have been seen beyond the Houston area, with confirmed sightings in San Antonio and in Jim Hogg County in the Rio Grande Valley.

I don't own an animal but thankfully where I live has great wildlife including deer (that love to eat all of my flowers on my deck), birds, raccoons and my all time favorite animal that I spotted was baby Western Screech Owls. They spent the entire summer in a huge oak tree just outside of my house. I don't see them anymore but I can still hear them hoo'ing! This picture was taking about 5 feet away from them while they were learning to fly!
