I had never heard of a "jo-jo" until I visited Portland, but apparently, jo-jos are like the world's largest French fries — giant potatoes, cut into quarters, then battered and fried. I normally shy away from such foods, but on a recent trip to Portland's Reel M Inn, I couldn't resist. 42% Drop Out rates in the US...never cease to amaze me.
I was voting today in the Special Elections (for directors in education) for my county and when I came across the blurb that Oregon had a 42% drop out rate it's almost unbelievable. I'm originally from LA and in a city that large, it's a bit easier to believe, but when I stand outside and walk around Portland I just can't see it or believe it. Anyway this post is nothing special, but I do realize now more than ever how important it is that I stay involved in education and to become even more so as budget cuts find there way into the schools.concert!
