Preventing Bathroom Mold

Your bathroom is one of the most wetted rooms in your home, and therefore is one of the rooms where mold is most likely to grow. The fact that heat and moisture are frequently generated in the bathroom promotes mold growth as these factors provide great conditions for mold to grow and flourish. Prevent mold in your bathroom is vital for your health and for the way your bathroom looks. In addition, if neglected and due to optimal growing conditions, bathroom mold is likely to spread internally through walls, ceilings, and floors, leading to an extremely expensive remediation costs. One of the key factors for bathroom mold prevention is frequent inspections to prevent water damage that can lead to mold growth. The first step in mold prevention is keeping your bathroom dry and airy. Use a humidity meter to check humidity levels before and after showers. Be sure to keep humidity levels below forty to forty five percent. If you allow adequate air circulation, your bathroom humidity levels should drop below 45 percent within 5-10 minutes from the minute you finished your shower.

Shower and Bathtub Maintenance

Keep the bathtub, floors, walls, and ceilings, clean and dry at all times. To prevent mold where it is very likely to grow, be sure to stretch the bathtub curtain after using the bathtub to allow equal and complete drying.

Air Flow

Allowing air flow and air circulation are key step in keeping low humidity levels. The basic technique and the simplest is to open windows and doors right after taking a shower to allow air to free flow and remove excess moisture. If you didn’t install an exhaust fan yet, do so as soon as possible as this is a great tool for bathroom ventilation. Turn on the exhaust fan while taking a bath or shower and leave it working for 5-10 more minutes after finishing using the bathroom to allow the bathroom to dry completely. Confirm that your fan exhausts outdoors directly.

Day to Day Maintenance

Day to day maintenance is important to prevent water damage and mold. It will also help detecting problems before they become a large scale disaster. Drains must be kept in good shape. Allow the bathtub to drain completely and by removing all debris and using drain openers from time to time. Create hard surfaces on your bathroom walls using semi-gloss paint. It is harder for mold to grow on these type of surfaces.

In other Katy news, MTV producers are reportedly working really hard at trying to score Lindsay Lohan for an on-stage smooch with Katy for this year's VMAs. Wishful thinking, though, because just last month, Lindsay refused to be photographed with Katy at the Hard Rock in Chicago. In Gingrich mold, a new voice for solid resistance in Republican

WASHINGTON: The last time congressional Republicans were this out of power, they turned to a college professor from Georgia, Newt Gingrich, to lead the opposition, first against President Bill Clinton in a budget battle in 1993, and then back into the majority the following year.
As Republicans confronted President Barack Obama in another budget battle last week, their leadership included another new face: Representative Eric Cantor of Virginia, who as the party's chief vote wrangler is as responsible as anyone for the tough line the party has taken in this first legislative standoff with Obama. This battle has vaulted Cantor to the front lines of his party as it tries to recover from the losses of November.
As Republican whip, Cantor succeeded again on Friday in denying the White House the support of a single House Republican on the stimulus bill. That was a calculated challenge to the president who, in his weekly address on Saturday, hailed the bill as "an ambitious plan at a time we badly need it."
Cantor said he had studied Gingrich's years in power and had been in regular touch with him as he sought to help his party find the right tone and message. Indeed, one of Gingrich's leading victories in unifying his caucus against Clinton's package of tax increases to balance the budget in 1993 has been echoed in the events of the last few weeks.
"I talk to Newt on a regular basis because he was in the position that we are in: in the extreme minority," he said.
The Republicans can certainly count some victories, although symbolic ones. Even White House aides said Cantor and his team had been successful in seizing on spending items in the stimulus bill to sow doubts about it with the public.
The fact that House Republicans have stood firm against Obama suggests just how unified the caucus is, though Gingrich, in an interview, said Democratic leaders like Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and Representative David Obey of Wisconsin, the chairman of the Appropriations Committee, did more to unify Republicans than anything Republicans did.
"I'd like to tell you Cantor did a brilliant job, but the truth is that Pelosi and Obey pushed the members into his arms," Gingrich said. But, he added, "They have been good at developing alternatives so they don't leave their guys out there chanting no."
The Republican Party is arguably weaker today than it was in 1993, given Obama's popularity and the enormous weight Republicans are carrying after eight years under President George W. Bush. Even as Cantor was urging Republicans to oppose Obama on this signature plan, he offered praise of the president, suggesting that Republicans should be careful to avoid being labeled obstructionist.
"I think people out there across the country elected this president because he inspired the notion that we can change," he said. "Not to be so trite as to invoke his campaign slogan, but I do think there was some substance behind it in terms of what people thought in voting for him.
"Banking off that mood of the country right now, I think it's incumbent upon us to reach out to him and see if we can work together."
Cantor, along with the House minority leader, Representative John Boehner of Ohio, faces the challenge of trying to lead a shrinking and increasingly conservative caucus. The party also faces the burden of trying to advance what Cantor describes as its bedrock value - smaller government - in the face of considerable evidence that the American public wants an increasingly active government to deal with the economic crisis.
And it is Cantor who is pushing the party in a direction that Democrats, and some Republicans, say is risky: almost lock-step opposition to Obama's economic plan. Democrats have already made clear that they intend to use those votes against Republicans in 2010, and sooner, with advertisements noting the middle-class tax cuts included in the bill.
Cantor's increasing prominence is in many ways a reminder of the difficult time the party faces after losing the presidential election and in the absence of any high-profile Republican leaders in the House or the Senate. Boehner routinely defers to him at news conferences, reflecting the concern of Republicans that they put forward new and relatively young faces. ( Cantor is 45, but looks younger.)
Cantor, who has exhibited an eye for winning attention, has rushed in to fill the leadership vacuum with a daily diet of news conferences, interviews, speeches on the House floor and television appearances. "ALERT: Cantor Holds Economic Recovery Roundtable," a news release from his office announced, in describing an economic forum he will hold on Wall Street.
He is the only Jewish Republican in the House. This has created a thoroughly unlikely circumstance for the Republican Party, given that its other most prominent face these days is the new chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele, the first African-American to hold the post.
Cantor, who grew up in Richmond, is soft-spoken with a whisper of a Southern accent. A lawyer, he served in the Virginia House of Delegates before being elected to Congress in 2000, filling the seat once held by James Madison, as he likes to remind people.
In discussing the Republican defeat, he said: "I don't think it was an outright rejection of what I call common sense conservative principles. And as a Virginian, holding James Madison's seat, I don't think it was a rejection of the principles upon which this country was built."
Cantor is certainly different from Gingrich in some significant ways. "He's not Newt - giving off sparks every 15 seconds," said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax reform, an influential conservative group. "While I never bought the criticism of Newt that being an ideas factory meant he suffered from ADD - I think it was an unfair rap on him - to his advantage, Cantor is seen as both an ideas person and steady and stable."
Beyond that, friends of both say that Gingrich is more intellectually adventurous than Cantor, but also more prone to overreach.
"I would say my manner is such that it would seem to be a little more demure," Cantor said.
Demure or not, Cantor's press secretary was forced to apologize last week after e-mailing to a reporter a video filled with vulgar language making fun of labor unions, in response to an advertisement from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees pressuring Republicans to support the Obama plan.
Cantor acknowledged that Obama had won points from the public for appearing less partisan than Republicans in this battle, but he warned that the president should not draw the wrong lesson.
"I think it would be short-sighted for him to take away from a zero vote that he shouldn't even mess with us anymore," he said.

Kiddie Soiree: Regal Cake Molds For a Princess

Now that the theme has been set and the invitations have been sent out, it's time to start stocking up on the necessary items for my 3-year-old princess's royal affair. First on the list is a regal style cake pan. In the past I've ordered the dessert from our grocer but this year I'm thinking of making it so she can help me with the decoration. It may turn out looking like a mess but at least we'll have fun doing it. Now I just have to decide which mold to go with: tiara, carriage, castle, or cupcakes with crowns on top.

It's super easy and yummy--- my neighbor is the 'Domestic Diva' on NBC Chicago and he included on one of his segments but was going so fast he messed up.. he also posted my favorite Veggie Dip! My Mom makes in a star mold to make it more festive and pretty but any mold will work!

8 oz. sharp cheddar grated
8 oz. Monterrey Jack grated
1 red onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
1 cup mayo
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 cup pecans, chopped
salt, pepper, tobasco to taste

Combine the ingredients. Mix well. Grease mold, sprinkle w/ extra choppped pecans. Press cheese mixture into mold. Chill til firm. Top w/ strawberry or raspberry preserves. (I use raspberry) Serve w/ crackers. Yummy!

Wilton Wonder Mold

What the heck is the wonder mold you ask? Well it's Wiltons (the cake people) cake typically made into dolls. Wondermold can be used for lots of different reasons not just dolls. Last night I took a Wilton session on wonder molds and we got to create my first doll cake. We had a lot of fun. I am thinking of making a special doll cake for my church's fall festival. I saw one online that was a witch that was SUPER cute. So I might have to put my twist on this one.

I always wanted a poster style bed...so we finally got one! and luckily we got it on sale (January is a great time for furniture-buys). Of course we couldn't keep the old carpeting so we installed wood floors and wood molding and repurposed an old wool rug. The retro-style gold glass lamps I found at Target for just $39...It's 'heavenly" now!

The first few days after a baby's birth are like living in a bubble so hospital visitors shouldn't burst it. Doting mothers stare at their new bundles of joy in awe and focus on if and when their babies are eating, sleeping and pooping. The following is a list of off-limit topics and behaviors for those heading to the maternity ward.

Don't snap mad photos without permission - especially if the mama has a visible catheter bag or stained sheets.
Don't stare or ask to touch her brand-new Dolly Parton boobs. News flash: engorged breasts hurt!
Don't ask if she had her tubes tied or if her hubby is getting a vasectomy.
Don't discuss the family's carbon footprint.
Don't ask if there's any way the baby's conehead can be molded.
No matter how big the baby's head is, don't speculate about the size of her pelvis or hips.
Don't refer to the child as having "elf ears."
Don't attribute every baby smile to gas.
Don't mention that you think today's parents don't have a clue.
Don't ask when they are going to try for another one!
Don't question if the husband is really the father since the baby looks nothing like him!
Don't try to persuade the parents to change the baby's name by coming up with all the awful nicknames you think the child faces.
Don't talk about everything that is wrong with the world.
Unless she offers, don't ask the degree of her tear.
Don't exclaim, "Oh, I love your mom pooch!" It's not like she can speed up a contracting uterus.
