I was reading the NY Times' book reviews and I came across an interesting review on the book, Liquid Memory: Why Wine Matters by Jonathan Nossiter. (262 pp. Farrar, Straus & Giroux $26) As background, I would hope that every serious wine drinker has seen Modovino by this time, a movie ostensibly about the world wine trade. if nothing else it is fascinating. I will admit here and now that I am no fan of Robert Parker nor of that other popular wine magazine which seems like it is at every checkout counter. however I dislike them for different reasons. Parker, at very least, knows something about wine, but his mere favorable mention of a given wine has been known to send it soaring. There are many popular examples. The other magazine, which shall go unmentioned, has attempted to manipulate wine drinkers into various drining habits. Not without its merits, especially in areas of travel articles, there is a common joke in the wine trade that when a wine is panned in the magazine, it is said that the winery probably forgot to pay its bill. In any case, I thought this review was a pretty good one, of not only the book but the way in which we find the wine world today, so I am posting it here. I met this guy online bout 3 years ago.We chatted on an off an decided a year ago to meet up.Things went well an we started dating soon after that.Everything went ok till bout 3 months ago.We were so happy. I jokingly asked him whether he had kids on which he surprisingly answered yes.I had asked him before an he said no.He did a few months back say that he had 2 kids but that was in an convo with friends an we all didn't take him serious an went on with the convo.I asked him why he withheld it from me for all these months an he said its cos of all the crap he gets from women becoz they have a problem with them.It took a while but i forgave him or so i thought.We went on him starting to talk bout his kids which was cool.After another month i found something very suspicious which made me phone his ex.Bare in mind she's the mother to the youngest an to top it off they are in business together an see each other almost every day.I asked her whether they have something on an she denied it an said that due to reasons mentioned they are in contact a lot but that i had nothing to worry bout.I sort of forgave him again an we went on till bout 2 weeks after that.She text me to apologise for her part in our breakup which was news to me,we still went out the previous night and letting me know that they are getting married.I was devastated.I asked him how he could do it.He said he didn't know how to tell me.She gave gave him an ultimatum.He leaves me an marry her or she don't let him see his kid (the law says she can't) an she wants half of the business paid out.He couldn't brake it off with me he said cos i did nothing wrong.After she heard bout me she went crazy an came up with this crazy idea.I asked him to fetch whatever stuff he had by me an not to contact me.He was there every night apologizing watching me cry like i never cried before holding me apologizing crying with me.Its two weeks later an his still ere every night,doing what he used,phoning me like he use to to do being who he use to be as if the inevitable doesn't exist.He says he'll keep her on a line with the gettin married story that he doesnt wanna be with her an don't know what to do but I can't go on like this anymore.One day its all gonna stop an I'll be left alone.I love him so much still an I did ask him to not see me anymore but he keeps on coming back an I can't let go an shut the door in his face.I don't know what to do anymore.I know its up to me to just be strong an not allow him in my life but I can't let go.
