Crate and Barrel Recalls Shag Rugs Due to Fire Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: "Remy" Shag Rugs

Units: About 5,100

Importer: Crate and Barrel, of Northbrook, Ill.

Hazard: The large rugs fail to meet federal standards for flammability and could ignite, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. The small rugs fail to meet federal labeling requirements. Small rugs are not required to meet the federal flammability standard; however, they are required to be permanently labeled with the following statement: "FLAMMABLE
(FAILS U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE STANDARD FF 2-70): SHOULD NOT BE USED NEAR SOURCES OF IGNITION."

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves the "Remy" shag rugs with SKU numbers listed below. The rugs are made of cotton jersey. The large rugs measure 5' by 8' and 2.5' by 7'. The small rugs measure 5' round, 2' by 3', 4' by 6'. "Remy" and the SKU number can be found on the back of the product label.

Sold at: Crate and Barrel retail stores nationwide, its online retailer, and through its catalogue from January 2007 through April 2008 for between $50 and $300.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled rugs. Consumers with large rugs should contact Crate and Barrel to arrange pick up of their rugs and obtain a full refund. Consumers with small rugs should contact Crate and Barrel to obtain a new label including warning information or a full refund.

I've been doing a little [okay - a lot] of pre-shopping on Crate & Barrel's website, focusing on a rug for our living room. The room has very odd dimensions, being 27' long and only 11' wide, so I've decided to go with an area rug. Sizes seem to be very limited in the styles that I find most attractive and so I've put Photoshop to work to see which would work best in my room.

This is probably the hardest of the decisions that I have to make in putting my prize money to work so I really appreciate your help. Below are the 3 front runners. Please let me know - which do you like best?

Since we have so many stores in our mostly local area, I'm going to call ahead and make sure they have what I want in stock. We'll save gas and this should also make my husband happy - not having to drive from the outlet in Cranberry, NJ to Bridgewater Commons.

The mattress springs were all shot and twisted, and the slats were either broken or fallen through. Point is, we've needed a new bed for a while, and I finally ponied up and bought one. We got a Crate and Barrel BENTO bed, which is a slat bed built eintirely of pressed cured bamboo--which will not break or splinter under us. And a nice Seaman's BeautyRest on top of it--so now Humfrey-Bear, the Ugly Dolls, and Paul and Emily have a nice new place to cuddle in. i love shopping at CB2, but it's always online. lucky me to be working on the road and running into a lady who works for Crate and Barrel. so during our conversation about business and the home market, i mention that i live in new york. then she says, "I'm going to be there next week to check on our new store opening in November."

I almost screamed right there! i am so excited about this store opening and i can't say enough about it. so here's the skinny for the new york peeps: November 6th at 451 Broadway and Grand St.

Would You Turn an Ordinary Crate Into a Luxury Cabana?

Who says Labor Day marks the figurative end of Summer?! Certainly not me, as I'm trying to squeeze in a few more weekends of fun in the sun with my pooch, who is a big fan of bringing the outdoors in (on his paws and coat). This crate cover turns my ordinary living room into cabana central.

With two contrasting panels, the crate cover ($95) even comes with the rollup door often spotted beachside - and North needs to nap in peace . . . on the matching pillow bed ($115), of course. Are you craving this style or will you stick to creating blanket tents in your household?

What to do about the dog?

My boyfriend has a boxer that he has had since it was a puppy. Until recently, she was living with his parents (he was in transition from moving, plus there was more room for her). She is very territorial aggressive after getting into a fight with another dog about a year ago. Even to people she knows very well (his parents, him, me), she has tried to attack.
About a month ago, she attacked his mother for pulling out her bed from her crate to wash it. It was pretty much the next opportunity that they could get her to us that she moved in. It has now been a while since she has moved in with us, and she seems to have adjusted well. That is, except when it comes to crating (which she has been crate trained her entire life). About a year ago, she began quietly growling when you would crate her for the night. Now, it has escalated to coming out and trying to attack (mainly me) whenever I look like I am going to crate her.
At first, I thought it was a dominance issue so I tried making her sit for attention, food, going out, etc. If anything her behavior escalated. It was still growling when closing her crate. Now, it's growling when I pass her crate and trying to bite me before I can close the door if I crate her. This doesn't always happen, but it is becoming much more frequent. When is enough enough? My boyfriend works nights so he is not always around to take care of her. Thus, I am stuck at home with the dogs and I feel like I am being hunted in my own home... it is really taking a toll on my nerves.
Removing the crate itself is not an option. First of all, I don't want to be in a position where I can't crate her if I need to (especially considering how unpredictable she is becoming)... Second, my younger dog (she just turned 2) MUST be crated. She still manages to get into everything if left to her own devices. In the past, she has tried to take over my dog's crate when hers in inaccesible, which caused a big fight. Like I said, the crate needs to stay.
My boyfriend says that he plans to rehome her if possible... but he is making no moves to do so. I am terrified he is just saying this to shut me up, and the longer he waits, the more upset I seem to get... any advice?

If your pet's crate pad or carrier lining is too dingy to make do, there's a super easy way to fix it . . . that doesn't include tons of money or heavy-duty detergent. Instead of seeking a replacement at the pet store, hit up your local fabric store instead and ask for "sheepskin." The synthetic material's fairly easy to come by (even online) - purchase it by the yard, trim to fit, and store the excess for next time. Snuggle time . . . saved.

OK readers, I'm moving into my new kitchen this week, and I need your help finding the perfect kitchen island. There's a large space between the fridge and cabinets. If I leave it empty, it will be wasted space, but if I get a portable work station, it will be more counter space! Can you help me search the Internet for kitchen islands?
