Dogs were one of the first animals domesticated by humans and have been domesticated for some 10,000 years.
The Saluki, the name deriving from the Arabic word meaning ‘noble one', is the oldest known breed of dog. In ancient Egypt, they were bred as hunting dogs.

CASSELTON, N.D. – Boomer may be a buster: Measuring 3 feet tall at the shoulders and 7 feet long from nose to destructive wagging tail, he might be the world's tallest living dog. Owner Caryn Weber says her 3-year-old Landseer Newfoundland keeps all four paws on the floor when he drinks from the kitchen faucet in her family's eastern North Dakota farm house.

Jet Heading to Newark With Dead Pilot

Updated, 11:24 a.m. | The pilot of a Continental Airlines jetliner died midflight on Thursday morning as the plane was en route from Brussels to Newark, N.J., the authorities said. Two first officers were operating the plane, a Boeing 777.

CARBONEAR, Newfoundland - A Newfoundland woman who went to
a hospital complaining of kidney pain was shocked when she
gave birth to a healthy baby boy soon after. Juanita Stead,
36, was at a New Year's Eve party when the pain started
and escalated to the point where her husband, Terry, took
her to the hospital in the eastern town of Carbonear for
X-rays, the Carbonear Compass reported. "The technician
looked at me and said, 'My dear, you're pregnant with a
full-term baby.'

Over 300,000 baby seals will be clubbed or shot to death mercilessly during Canada's seal hunt this year; many will be skinned alive.
Canadian government officials insist that the seal hunt is a vital part of Canada's economy, yet in reality, the hunt accounts for less than one percent of Newfoundland’s GDP and an average of just $1,000 per sealer per year. Significant amounts of money are actually spent by Canada's government to promote the hunt and to develop new markets for seal products abroad.

A Calgary lawyer and a Newfie are sitting next to each other on the long
flight from Alberta to Newfoundland. The lawyer is thinking that Newfies
are so dumb that he could get one over on them easy...so the lawyer asks if
the Newfie would like to play a fun game.
The Newfie is tired and just wants to take a nap, so he politely declines
and tries to catch a few winks.

At 2:20 a.m. on April 15, 1912, the British ocean liner Titanic sinks into the North Atlantic Ocean about 400 miles south of Newfoundland, Canada. The massive ship, which carried 2,200 passengers and crew, had struck an iceberg two and half hours before.
