While at the Worldwide Fido Awards in LA last week, Samson got to test out the Porch Potty, a sort of port-a-potty for dogs that lives on your porch. Since North is already potty trained, I wouldn't need something like this, but LilPeaPod says that it's a must have for puppies and older dogs alike!

Samson is pretty well potty trained at this point, but I would snatch up the Porch Potty if you have a new puppy, or even an elderly dog that can't walk all that well anymore. The box is clean, has no smell (other than the scent of grass) and you don't have to empty out a tray like other faux grass systems, cause this is real grass! Plus you can get different models to fit your lifestyle from basic grass and box, to a full drainage and watering system to keep your grass growing. It's brilliant, and Samson dug it. Well, not literally dug into it . . . he really liked it.

In case you missed it, our resident cutie Samson won the title of Cutest Dog in the Worldwide Fido Awards! LilPeaPod, her BF, and Samson headed down to Santa Monica late last week for the taping of the show, and snapped up a few behind-the-scenes piccys to share with us. Big congrats to Samson on taking the "Cutest" title, and although he didn't get the top Worldwide Fido award, he's still a winner in our hearts!

Gabe, the bulldog from Bellingham, Wash. who flushes toilets, skateboards, and even rides a rocking horse! Congrats to this super cute smooshy for his big title!
OK, now the back story: Hosted by Fred Willard (star of one of our favorite animal movies), the 2008 Worldwide Fido Awards took place in the aptly-named Barker Hangar in Santa Monica over the weekend. The finalists were announced for six categories including our very own Samson who captured the title of "Cutest Dog" – woohoo!

Judges for the event included celebrity dog trainer Tamar Gellar and actors Kevin Nealon and Vivica A. Fox, and lucky for us LilPeaPod has some behind the scenes tales coming later today.

Samson's a Semi-Finalist!

In case you missed it, our newest office pup Samson has been in the running for the Worldwide Fido Awards Cutest Dog category, and we just got word that he made it into the Semi-Finals! Check out Samson doing his thing in his adoro home video, and vote for him by clicking on the yellow "Vote for Me" bone – he still needs all your support to make it to the WFA Finale in October!

I know I'm totally being a faux stage mom here, but time is almost out to vote for Samson as Cutest Dog in the Worldwide Fido Awards! All you have to do is click on the "Vote For Me" bone at the top of his video. I'm determined to see one of our own make it to the finals, so keep voting! And just in case you need any more encouragement, just look at his sweet smooshy face. How can you resist?

Growing Up Samson: Make Him the Cutest!

I'm totally not partial to one pet (besides my own of course) believing that every animal is super adoro no matter what the species! But when Sugar staffer LilPeaPod sent me the link to Samson's entry page on the Worldwide Fido Awards website, I knew I had to call in the troops to help him make a big finish!

If you aren't familiar with the Worldwide Fidos, let me fill you in: You can submit videos of your pets in any of the six categories (cutest, best trick, best voice, owner look alike, most outrageous, and best dressed), for viewers to vote online. From there, the top six in each category are tallied and flown to LA for the televised finals. The winners are crowned in a special broadcast and get to proudly wear the title of Worldwide Fido 2008!

Make sure you check out Samson's crazy cute video here and vote, vote, vote! Hopefully, we'll see him at the finals!

PetSugar Street Team: Bissell Pet Hair Eraser

As a prize for winning Cutest Dog at the Worldwide Fido Awards, Samson (and family) got to take home a brand new vacuum: the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser. How appropriate! Coincidentally, LilPeaPod's Dirt Devil was on the fritz, so getting this vacuum ended up being a lifesaver in more than one respect:

My trusty Dirt Devil vacuum that we've had for a few years was on its last leg. We were considering buying a new one, but once we got to the Fido Awards, we found out that we got to take home a brand new Bissell vacuum! I was never so happy to get a cleaning appliance – this thing is a monster!

I knew the Bissell would be much larger than my old model, but I had no idea how cool it would look out of the box! This thing is pretty big, but for the power it has, the size is just fine with me. Putting it together was easy (you have to attach the handle and hoses, and secure all the cool attachments), and the bagless feature is awesome, since all you have to do is flip a switch to empty the container. As for cleaning? This baby rocks! It comes with a powerful attachment to suck up all the pet hair left behind on your furniture, and my carpets look shiny and new. The only downside I could find was that it tends to tip over really easily when you're using the tube and attachments, but other than that it's a dream. Lightweight for its size, it almost seems to push itself! This is one vacuum that's definitely worth the price.

New Contest: Today's Best in Show!

If you missed out on entering the Worldwide Fido Awards over the Summer, have no fear – there is a new contest hitting the airwaves, and this time it's on the Today Show.

The Best in Show Contest will pit one "adorable trick" against another to win a three-night grand prize trip to Denver, and a photo shoot in US Weekly.

To enter, all you have to do is submit a video of your pet's best and most amazing trick online, or mail it in postmarked by November 6 to the Today Show. You and your pet could be seen on TV by millions! Will one of our own make it into the finals? I'm keeping my fingers crossed – PetSugar pets seem to be on a roll!

Do Tell: What's Your Favorite Pet-Friendly Hotel?

When LilPeaPod came back from her adventure with Samson at the Worldwide Fido Awards, she told us all about the great staff at the Le Merigot – where she stayed while filming the show. I know some hotels have a "Pet-Friendly" policy, but aren't too friendly when you check in. Thankfully, that wasn't the case when she arrived:

I was very impressed with the staff of the Le Merigot Hotel in Santa Monica, who went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, and treated Samson like a king – it was definitely all about him while we were there. Our hostess at the hotel café even brought Samson some ice to chew on to cool him down in the heat! Needless to say, if we ever need a place to stay in Santa Monica, we'll be heading back to the Le Merigot.

I've stayed at a few W hotels (and North loved the doormen at the one in our old NYC neighborhood), where do you like to stay when traveling with your pet?
