Wine is definitely my weakness and, even though I've yet to share it with my pooch, I love the idea of this cork-designed placemat ($4.50). Good things come in barrels. Barrels of laughs, barrels of monkeys, oh yeah, and barrels of wine! I can't get past the neat, new life an ordinary wine barrel – red, from the looks of it – gets as a doggie bed.

To the Rescue: Posing (Safely) With Dangerous Props

There's nothing like a cute pooch plus a silly prop to equal an adoro photo shoot - North poses next to a delicious (for humans) It's-It! If you're not familiar with this San Francisco treat, it's coated in chocolate . . . and that means poison. Since he's such a good model, he's also posed with a wine bottle, a lit birthday candle, and many other things around our house.

I've shared suggestions for snapping a pet, but check out a few tips for adding something iffy at photo time:

Never put him in danger. If you're positioning a pooch near something risky (fire, alcohol, sharp objects, etc.), never let your pet get too close.

Get the rest when you read more.

Think smartly and safely. If posing a pet next to a glass bottle, no matter the contents, only do this with animals with consistent "sit-stay" skills. You don't want a wagging tail or batting paw to break the glass.
Remove the item immediately. Don't leave the room or take your eyes off the pet with sharp bottlecaps, poisonous food/liquids, or other dangers present - it only takes a second for fast pups to inhale it. After you're done, put the things far from your furry friends once again.

The Night's Brandon McMillan Sheds Light on His Wild Side

Move over Travis from Greatest American Dog! There's a new handsome animal-loving fella on during primetime. Brandon McMillan, 31-year-old animal trainer and host of Animal Planet's The Night, is a nature lover's dreamboat. He has no formal training himself, but he's trained lions, bears, tigers and reptiles for flicks like The Jungle Book II, I Am Sam and TV shows 24 and Jackass.

His current show, The Night, which premiered last month and airs Wednesday nights at 10 p.m., is a dark look at what happens in the wild when the rest of us are cozied up in bed. Brandon goes on expeditions around the world to catch rare animal behaviors at night on camera. He recently chatted with OK!:

On his unusual job: When girls ask me what I do and I say I'm a wild animal trainer, they think I'm lying. I was telling a story in a bar and the bartender thought I was drunk and kicked me out.

On dangerous dates: My perfect date would be sitting in a Land Rover in Africa with a bottle of wine and some snacks...watching a lion kill.

On being fearless: I've had lions, snakes, leopards and buffalo come at me. I've been bitten, but I've never truly been attacked. Ninety-nine point nine percent of people who are attacked don't live to tell the tale.

Out and About: Virginia's Oasis Winery

Bring your leashed dog wine tasting at the boutique Oasis Winery along the Blue Ridge Parkway. People can sample wines from chardonnay to cabernet sauvignon, and pets can sniff around on a tour! It's open daily, year round (except Christmas and New Years) and features a three-tiered, heated deck for those wintry days, plus private wine cabanas with a view for the VIPs.

Bonus tip: Gather up at least six friends and do the I Love Lucy Wine Experience, where you get to crush grapes with your bare feet in real wine barrels! Your pooch, however, will have to sit this one out.

Pampered Pals: Bark Vineyards

Although I like wine for me, I obvs know that booze has no business in my pup's tum. Not the case with Bark Vineyards. Based in Williamsburg, Virginia ( a great pet-friendly destination in itself), the company bottles nonalcoholic "wines" for your dog. Coming in a wine-shaped bottle, it's actually alcohol-free au jus designed to pour over kibble. With flavors like Barkundy and White Sniff-n-Tail, there's even a Meowlot for your feline friends. Bark Vineyards uses an FDA-approved manufacturer with human-grade ingredients, and offers up their products in beautiful wood gift boxes as well. Now, most of us weren't big fans of beer for pooches, but I'm predicting this doggie "wine" ($21.99) will be a big hit with your pups - it could really add some flavor to that plain dry food!
