Do Tell: Could Your Dog Climb a Ladder?

Summer's officially over. Sigh. I like to think North and I are best suited for dry-land adventures (or boat trips, of course), but this Boston Terrier gives me hope. Guido not only bravely dives off the dock and swims to fetch a toy, he then climbs a ladder at the end! Impressive. I'll be grabbing a life vest and luring North into the water next year!

Does Your Cat Love Baths Like Laifu?

North doesn't mind a rub-a-dub in the tub every couple weeks, but even I couldn't lure my guy in the bath three times a week like this kitty! Five year-old Laifu from China can't get enough of the bubbly water of bath time, which is completely contrary to what many cat lovers can expect. I know my favorite cat gals use dry shampoo for their felines, and only attempt the water bath when absolutely necessary but maybe they're the exception, not the rule!

Found! Dolce and Gabbana's Dogs Enjoy Cool Water

Must be a nice life, spending the weekend on a boat in Portofino, Italy! These super swimmers set sail with some fashionable dads, (Domenico) Dolce and (Stefano) Gabbana. With special harnesses for easy lifting back onto the boat, the two retrievers look like pro swimmers and retrievers, naturally. The dogs took turns fetching this familiar item - a Kong!

With a couple versions meant for wet-and-wild times, both the red Kong Aqua and this swirly blue Cool Water will come out on top, floating if it takes a dip. With an extra-long rope in lieu of the tuggable loop, it's possible to reach great lengths when you toss it. Check out the pictures to see for yourself!

Do Tell: Dog's View of Sprinklers - Time to Attack or Jump Back?

It's fun to get wet and wild, but not unsupervised! Some dogs will run up to sprinklers and drink 'til their lil mouths are content . . . which usually causes some of that liquid to come back up later on, if you get my drift. Nevertheless, it's fun to watch a furball attack the sprinkler - I guess the big "water monster" does look pretty threatening. How do your pets react to these high-powered hoses?

Even though I don't offer my pooch bottled water, I definitely know the importance of keeping his liquid fresh (and the dangers when it's not). Since I also appreciate the taste of cold, filtered water, I know I've always wished I had a dispenser like this in my place. Am I alone?

My pal likes to bring Io to the DIY bath station at a local pet shop but complained to me that her dog's collar always gets all wet (during the washing process) and smelly (during the drying process). So I recommended this chic Dublin Dog version instead.

Try This Trick to See If Your Cat's Dehydrated!

Wow, there were so many great suggestions for that kitty who just wouldn't drink! We can all agree that it's an important problem that should be addressed pronto, and I'd like to give a special thank you to TsuKata for offering this tip from the vet who shared it with her after she had a cat that refused water. She writes:

Grab at the kitty's loose skin a little, not a pinch, just a gentle grasp that moves the skin up. It should be almost like you're scruffing her but not so much that you're lifting the kitty and not necessarily at the scruff. See if the skin has elasticity and goes back to the body immediately when you release. If it does not, your cat is dehydrated and should be taken to a vet to be given fluids immediately. If it does go back quickly, even though the kitty hasn't theoretically had water two weeks, your cat is likely drinking from a sink, toilet, or other source . . . and you just need to find that source.

Pet Peeves: Kitty Will Not Drink!

Q: I don't think my new kitten Belle is drinking! She eats her food but I've yet to catch her taking a sip of water in the two weeks since she's joined my home. I've even started marking the outside of the bowl so I can see if any disappears while I'm at work, but I see little to no difference. What should I do?

A: Oh no! Water's very important for our furry friends, so we've got to fix this pronto! While many cats love the water, others seem to show little interest in taking sips. First off, try adding more or less water to the dish. Kitty whiskers are super sensitive, and it's possible that there's not enough water to begin with and the sensation of the dish sides is scaring her away (or that there's too much and she doesn't want to get her head wet).

Make sure you keep fresh water in a clean bowl at all times; if you come home from work and the water is still there, empty the dish, clean it, and refill. Be mindful of any soap residue from washing or even chemicals in unpurified water that could be altering the taste, too. Finally, consider testing a dish with a different shape or even a pet fountain, 'cause some cats can't get enough of the tub and only want running liquid! In the meantime, be certain to moisten her food with a touch of water to make sure she's getting enough fluids until you find the solution.
