OK, so maybe you don't buy into all the teensy piggie hype. I hear ya - some animals that reach "fad" status, especially those praised for tiny, teacup sizes, can have health issues or be discarded. . . . once they grow bigger than expected. Now I'm weak for videos of nearly any cute species doing cute stuff and this mini flick of Kingsford meeting a cat, navigating the steps and frolicking in the water is too much to pass up on my dreary Friday. Umm, try telling North that "petting is passé!" I know it's sweet to treat a pet to a massage and I definitely liked Maryjean's tips on different tempos and the need to speak to a pet but, that's not where the video magic (mystery?) really comes in. When she started singing, I wondered what my dog would do if I crooned him a tune. I'm certainly no songstress so, if he could cover his ears, he probably would - do you create songs for pets swapping in their name for the normal lyrics?

The Scoop: Skunks Love Peanut Butter, Too

Mmmm, peanut butter. Not only is it one of my pup's favorite snacks (along with my own), apparently even skunks can't get enough as one unassuming Tulsa mail carrier spotted a stuck skunk in a ~~pickle~~ jar and called for backup. It took her a while to reach the proper party - no joke, called "The Skunk Whisperer" - which was enough time for news crews to come and capture the big rescue. Did everybody make it through unharmed and unsprayed? Watch the video and see for yourself.

The Shelter Pet Project Gives Images a Makeover

It's a sad fact we know to be true, but pets in shelters are often overlooked. Not only are there preconceived notions about these animals, but the reality is that some people just don't check out the lonely furballs in these locations. In order to draw attention to their plight, the Shelter Pet Project created some clever PSAs. Don't worry, they're using humor to pull on your heartstrings.

Is This Dog Snorkeling, Slurping, or Snorting Water? You Decide.

Slosh, slosh, slurp, slurp, this talented pup drinks water with her mouth and whole nose in the bowl! I mean even though dogs use tongues like a scoop for water, the dobie seems to enjoy her "bucket-snorkeling" technique with no coughing or wheezing. I can't figure out how Moosley mastered this technique, but I can bet why her water bowl's outside!

Summer's officially over. Sigh. I like to think North and I are best suited for dry-land adventures (or boat trips, of course), but this Boston Terrier gives me hope. Guido not only bravely dives off the dock and swims to fetch a toy, he then climbs a ladder at the end! Impressive. I'll be grabbing a life vest and luring North into the water next year!
