There's just something about these jars from Modern Tails ($75-$85). A tad on the kitschy side, I've always had a thing for hand painted pottery. Since I haven't seen a Color Me Mine in years – and I'm not sure my artistic skills are quite up to par – I'd love to just pick up a unique treat jar as a special gift for a cat lover.

OK, so I go for my twice monthly mani-pedis and North sits at home and waits. I admit it, I feel bad. And although I wouldn't subject North to "pawnail" polish (hello, he's a boy!), I did treat him to a few paw treatments with Opie and Dixie's Healing Paw Balm ($15).

A study of 42 domestic cats in at Queen's University, Belfast, let kitties complete three play-like tasks at home with their owners .

Besides being home to several super cute animal shops, and pet-friendly people stores, I was stunned by the sheer number of places supplying a jar of yumyums by the cashier. While I can think of a few local spots that sell or offer pet treats by the check out, it's definitely not the norm. How is it in your city – can you get dog cookies with your coffee?

This adorable ceramic jar is sure to rub any cat lover the right way. Designed for cat food or treats, I especially love the little mouse and cheese lid. But, oops, I don't even own a cat!
