Major Pet Food Recall – Is Your Brand One of Them?

I'm kind of a stickler about pet food. North eats pretty well, and I personally wouldn't have it any other way. So if the last pet food scare had you up in arms, then you should take notice to this news. Fourteen brands of pet food were placed on a voluntary recall list after two people may have contracted salmonella poisoning since coming in contact with food that was made between January and July of this year.

One of these is a top seller - Pedigree! I know a lot of you stick to all natural pet foods (and some of you even serve vegetarian or raw foods to your pampered pets), but I know there will be tons of you that are affected by this recall, so listen up! To find out which brands are being pulled from the shelves, and how to determine if you have one of them, just read more.

Member's Mark
Natural Dog Food
Natural Cat Food
Doggy Bag
PMI Nutrition
Red Flannel
PetPride
Special Kitty
Country Acres
Wegman's Bruiser
Wegman's Buju & Ziggie

All recalled foods were produced between January and July of this year. Look for these specific notations on the UPC bar code of your products:

For Pedigree brand pet foods, consumers should look for “PAE” on the bottom line - the sixth, seventh, and eighth digits. Sample:
PEDIGREE ® Small Crunchy Bites
Best Before 02/2009
808G1PAE01 12:00

For all other brands listed above, consumers should look for “17” as the first two digits of the second line.

If you have a supply of recalled food from one of the brands listed above, return the food to the retailer for a full refund.

Lawmaker Tries to Keep Pets Out of the Driver's Seat

Sure, Rachel Bilson, Vanessa Minnillo, and Britney do it all the time, but driving with your pets isn't exactly safe.

The Desert Sun reports that there's a bill in the state legislature aimed at pet owners who let their animals creep into the driver's seat.

Assembly Bill 2233 would fine drivers $35 if they are caught driving with an animal on their lap.

The assemblyman who introduced the bill claims that "in an accident in which the car is traveling 30 mph, an untethered, 60-pound dog can cause an impact of 2,700 pounds." Maze also quotes public and private data that "designates pets as among the worst in-car driving distractions, along with eating and cell phone use."

The Scoop: Skunks Love Peanut Butter, Too

Mmmm, peanut butter. Not only is it one of my pup's favorite snacks (along with my own), apparently even skunks can't get enough as one unassuming Tulsa mail carrier spotted a stuck skunk in a ~~pickle~~ jar and called for backup. It took her a while to reach the proper party - no joke, called "The Skunk Whisperer" - which was enough time for news crews to come and capture the big rescue. Did everybody make it through unharmed and unsprayed? Watch the video and see for yourself.

New Puppies Alert! Dolly and Ninja

That's right, there's double the trouble here! Two teensy pups packed away in a celeb-favorite, LV carrier and just who do these cuties belong to? Heidi and Spencer Pratt. Even though Dolly and Ninja were presented to the paparazzi yesterday, they were carried for most of the way - a good thing, since the little ones have surely not received all their puppy shots (like Parvo) and should not be exposed to other dogs or outside dangers just yet. Here's hoping we'll soon see the twosome (the dogs) on The Hills this season . . . if they slow down long enough for the cameras to catch them, that is.
