Introducing large quantities of rich "people food" into a pet's diet on Thanksgiving is bad for their tummies! In fact, some typical holiday fare should never be fed to pets. One sure way to be certain no one slips up is to place the appropriate portion of your furry friend's normal snacks in a convenient location. Point out the healthy treats to your guests and encourage them to pamper your pals with extra petting or playtime . . . not to feed the snacks all at once.

Dog-Approved Snacks:

Small piece of white-meat turkey
A few cooked, unseasoned carrots or green beans
Spoonful of canned pumpkin (not pie filling)
Sweet Potato Dog Chips
Small apple or banana slice

Mmmm! Pick Pumpkin Pie Pops

Thanksgiving's right around the corner - have you downloaded our planner yet? Now, I remember those adoro pies for finicky felines, but let your gourd-loving pups in on a lil, three-word secret: Pumpkin Pie Pops ($5).

Made of organic ingredients good enough for humans, the pumpkin snacks are topped with all-natural, veggie-food-colored yogurt. I can see a pooch being a-OK with this treat, since he can't have sugary pie and, as long as you take off the stick, it's totally safe for pups (and corn free). Did I mention you could eat it? Mmm, yeah that's all I can think about.

Turkey bones

Stuffing with onions
Salty or spicy veggies
Pumpkin pie
Sweet potato casserole
Any desserts, especially chocolate

Mmmmm, Pie: Desserts For Finicky Felines

While nine bucks is a lot of money to spend on a slice of pie for me to eat (read: gone in minutes), it's totally reasonable for these jumbo toy pieces filled with organic catnip.
Dish out this cute present for resident felines at Thanksgiving dinner (so they don't get jealous of their lucky dog counterparts). I plan on eating some pumpkin pie myself so I'm choosing this one, but Catzilla Crafts' Etsy store "bakes" up a bunch of goodies including cakes, donuts, eclairs, and even (my fave) banana pancakes. Cue the Jack Johnson, I'm diggin' in.

Since North and I plan to celebrate Thanksgiving with pals, I'm hoping he keeps his nosy lil self out of trouble while I'm baking. After all, he does believe in "helping himself" . . . even if that means conning my generous friends with his puppy dog eyes.

Luckily, he's too short to make it on top of the table to lick the turkey (true story from my childhood bestie), but I don't think his size limits the trouble he gets into. What's it like at your home? I want to hear all about those dining disasters I hope won't happen again this year . . . for your sake.

If you're attending a budget Thanksgiving dinner at a home with a four-legged pal, in addition to your potluck dish for the humans, this roast turkey is fresh out of the oven for doggies' delight.

Greedy pooches will get a bite, tug, gnaw, and kick out of this toy – after all, each of the legs and the body have a squeaker for five times the fun! Some will surely hoard turkey parts for later so detachable limbs are a bonus for stashing or sharing in multiple pet households. Oh, and what's that green thing you ask? Why a sprig of rosemary, of course. Ha!

The-Day-After Turkey Omelet

1 egg
1-2 tbsp. mashed potatoes
1/2 cup diced cooked turkey meat
1/2 cup cooked vegetables, chopped
1/4 cup desired cheese, grated

Heat a medium-sized pan with a small amount of olive oil. Whisk together the egg and potatoes. Spread in pan. Place turkey and veggies on top in even layers. Cover; simmer until egg cooks and the mixture is warm. Sprinkle cheese on top, then cook a few more minutes until cheese is melted and egg is golden brown. Let cool. Cut into wedges. Store in refrigerator.
