It's been a while since I've gave you a preppy update, but here I am with some tennis-inspired dog gear to celebrate the US Open.

If your dog's ready to play a game of fetch (and not a fan of dressing up), why not sub a simple prop like a collar or accessory? I especially love these visors – I thought I found every possible hat back on National Hat Day, but guess not . . . it's totally tennis prep for pups!

Bring the US Open Love Home!

Today marks the start of the US Open (which coincidentally coincided six years ago today when I brought North home to NYC)! To celebrate the beginning of this event, I'm rounding up the first round thing to come to mind . . . tennis balls, obviously.
North loves the extra small Air Kong versions 'cause they're super squeaky and fit him perfectly. (He usually tears all the fabric off a normal doggy tennis ball to use the frays to fetch 'em since they don't fit in his mouth.) Since he's pretty darn destructive, I'm shocked how long it takes him to kill the squeakers in this version – they sometimes last a couple months, which is an eternity in his chompers. Two Reasons to Toss Tennis Balls in the Washer . . . and Dryer!

While I'd recommend tossing (in the garbage) any tennis balls with signs of fraying or peeling rubber, it's a good idea to wash those you'll be keeping this season. Think of all the dirt from endless games of fetch and throw them in the washing machine with some towels and pet-safe detergent.

After the fuzzy balls are cleaned up, you can air out or pop them in a dryer for a special trick. If you add a tennis ball to the dryer, it can help fluff up your drying towels, down bedding or other clothes that need an extra puff and fluff – bonus!

Does Your Dog Have a Favorite Tennis Ball Size?

Let's get the ball rolling in '09! It's important to have the right tennis toss for those wintry afternoons of catch with your pet. That's not to say all animal sizes won't get a kick out of the standard ball, but the small tennies are more catch-worthy for lil mouths where they could be a choking hazard to the big dogs. From teeny tiny ones (usually 1.5-inch in diameter) to the super sized (5-inches in diameter), which ball do you think your pooch would like best?

Ball Stomp'r: Spoiled Sweet or Spoiled Rotten?

Here's yet another way to chuck a tennis ball without actually throwing it – time to use the power of da' feet. The Ball Stomp'r ($12) features a launch tube that fits a standard-sized ball and when you step, it soars up to 100 feet! If your dogs love to fetch and your throwing arm works about as well as mine (read: not good), this could be a nice option . . . and there's even a mini version ($8) for those teeny tennies. Noah Carries His Ball While Zachary Quinto Takes the Bags

I know most dogs are super excited for walk time, and Noah's so into it, he's got his toy, too! Can't forget a ball for impromptu fetch games, after all. This cute Irish Wolfhound/Airedale Terrier mix had a standard-sized yellow tennie tucked in his teeth as this twosome strolled around LA over the weekend.

It's nice to see Zachary Quinto modeling good dog ownership with blue poop bags and a holder, but I wonder if they stopped at a park to play or if Noah hasn't worked on drop it yet. Either way, there are more cute piccys to check out below!

Basketball Toys For Dogs Make a Slam Dunk!

I know my pooch loves any game involving him . . . and a ball to chase, catch, or chew! Even though tennis seems to be the most common style of choice, I rounded up some other round balls to get your dogs off the bench and into the backyard. Will You Go See Disney/Pixar's Up?

I got the chance to screen Up along with my pals, BuzzSugar and lilsugar - after all, the movie included the super cute Dug, so I was there. Without giving any major plot points away, my favorite things - the "cone of shame," a walker's tennis ball used for fetch, and the collar translator for stream-of-consciousness pup voice - outweighed the negatives (some birdie abuse, "bad dogs," and one scary scene for animal lovers). All in all, the 3D graphics were stunning, and it's an animated film, so no creatures were actually harmed in the making! Check out some of my favorite movie pics below - will you watch?
