Keep Crates Cool With This K-9 Kooler!

I know I don't need to remind you not to put a crated pup in direct sunlight - he's not trying to get a tan! In addition to also selecting a spot away from windows or heavy objects that could hurt him in an emergency, good ventilation is key. If your apartment gets super toasty (and you can't leave the a/c running while you're not home), pick up this K-9 Kooler.

On sale for just $9.50, it runs up to 100 hours on 2 D batteries - so more cost-saving than corded fans - and clips to any crate or kennel for home or travel use. Stay cool, dogs!

Condiment Costumes: Spoiled Sweet or Spoiled Rotten?

If you're into including a pooch at the festivities (and favor dressing up a dog), what's your take on these two comedic condiment ensembles - mustard ($19) and ketchup ($19)?
Dog Days of Summer: How to Remove Burrs

More prevalent in late Summer and early Fall, burrs can be an unnecessary parting gift from woodsy walks. Rumored to have inspired the creation of Velcro, the hooks and teeth on this seed are super tricky to get off clothing, so imagine how it would stick to a pet!

After frolicking in the forest, rub your hands all over your pet for a cockleburr check - if you feel the telltale bump, isolate and de-tangle with your hands until you're able to get a good grasp of it. Now don't fret, follow my removal tips when you read more.

Teasing works only on tiny sections at a time so concentrate on the biggest snarls first. Firmly grasp the burr in one hand, and use a metal comb to separate the hairs by brushing in small strokes towards your pet's skin.

If your pup's long-haired or the burrs are tiny, you can slicker brush them out by brushing away from your pet's skin.

For major snarls, generously apply some Mink Oil spray for dogs if you have it (or vegetable oil, if you don't) to slick the fur and help with the combing. After you've removed it, wash the area or bathe your pooch.

When all the above tactics fail, use scissors to cut as close to the burr as possible and snip it out.

Source: Flickr User Muffet

Happy Birthday, Tai Shan (and Nine Other Icy Snacks For Zoo Animals)!

I could go for some frozen goodness right about now! Ice cream, margarita, even a Popsicle, I'm not picky. Now several zoos treat animals to cold relief (no artificial sweeteners or alcohol, of course), but do you know what goes into snacks like Tai Shan's Birthday "cake"? See a slideshow of ways to help animals chill out this Summer when you get started!

Your Grass and Dog Deserve a Lawn Lounger

Extra laundry, yuck! Lucky for both of you, there's a new bed in town with such a summery feel, you can leave it outside all season long. The cover's fade- and weather-resistant - since the Lawn Lounger ($65 and up) is made from fabric similar to those lounge cushions, maybe you can keep your precious pal off of your comfy chair and settled down into his own. Who's not happy now?
