Box Office: It's a Chihuahua World and We're Just Living in It

If the photo below were a Caption It contest based on this weekend's box office results, my entry would go something like: "Well Leo, there's no easy way to say this so I'm just going to come out with it. We got beat by the little talking dogs. Beat bad."

That's right, Disney's Beverly Hills Chihuahua was No. 1 for the second weekend in a row followed by the horror flick Quarantine. Ridley Scott's Body of Lies, which came in third, was expected to do much better "based on its star power alone" but the combination of mediocre reviews and the fact that audiences continue to eschew Iraq War-related movies probably worked against a successful opening weekend. Eagle Eye and Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist rounded out the top five respectively.

The new sports film The Express came in at No. 6 followed by Nights in Rodanthe, Appaloosa, The Duchess, and City of Ember at No. 10.

Out and About: Hawaii's Quarantine Rules

Welcome to Hawaii! Off the bat, I want to mention that the Aloha State has a special quarantine law designed to protect resident people and pets from potentially serious health problems associated with the introduction and spread of rabies. All dogs and cats, regardless of age, must comply with Hawaii’s pet import requirements. This makes it impossible to bring your doggie or kitty for a last-minute family vacay – you'll need at least four months of preparation, including rabies vaccinations and a blood test that requires waiting 120 days after a successful test result before entering the state. If you do arrive or relocate on the islands before this time period ends, you'll not only have to give up your pet, but you'll also have to pay boarding fees of $224 for five days or less (plus $17.80 each additional day after that) and relinquish your pet to the quarantine station on Oahu where you can visit during afternoon hours but cannot take animals outside of their outdoor kennel enclosures. This is a big improvement from the previous law, which required all pets to endure quarantine for at least 30 days, but it still makes travel to the nation's only rabies-free state difficult and pricey – even after paying for the necessary health requirements, it costs an additional $165 to get your pet released from the airport to the island. For those of you who've planned a trip in advance and waited the requisite time, they now also have a direct-release program for dogs traveling between the islands of Hawaii, Kauai, Maui, and Oahu making it smooth sailing for subsequent island hopping. Feeling Sick? Do These 3 Things Stat

It starts with a few sniffles, a scratchy throat, or a nagging cough. Many times you don't think twice about it, either because you're too busy or you just hope it goes away soon. As soon as those telltale signs of an oncoming cold appear, follow these tips to encourage a speedy recovery.

Take zinc: When the sniffles strike, take zinc; it's been proven to shorten the life span of colds, as well as make symptoms less severe. The studies found that zinc only works when taken as soon as your cold symptoms begin, so hit the cold aisle as soon as you notice any rundown feelings.
Make rest a priority: You don't have to quarantine yourself, but you do have to rest. If you feel a cold coming on, don't just ignore it; revamp your schedule so your day includes plenty of rest. Whether that means canceling evening plans or foregoing the DVR for an earlier bedtime, make rest a priority.
Drink water and tea: Staying hydrated should be your top priority, but that doesn't mean you should reach for sugary sodas or dehydrating cocktails. Keep your water bottle full and drink some warming tea (try our recipes for cold-fighting ginger tea and sage tea for a cough) to hydrate and feel better.

Besides these three things, don't forget to exercise regularly (but not if you're too sick!); it helps build your immunity so you can cut colds short or prevent them from happening in the first place.

Doctor Who Recap: The Girl Who Waited

Previews of this week's Doctor Who episode "The Girl Who Waited" exclaimed the story central to Rory and Amy's relationship and a tearjerker. Truth be told, I was wary of these proclamations as I haven't felt connected to the depths of the Pond team. Sure, they grew up together, fell in love, and now travel space and time with one another, even having a half-Timelord baby, but something seemed missing. Their roles rounding out the Doctor's escapades and creating an entertaining ensemble are certain, but a tear-inducing love story was a stretch - until now.

Tearjerker, indeed. An emotional story complicated with Amy's separation from Rory and the Doctor by dual timestreams, this episode solidifies the love of the Ponds despite a climactic, painful choice. Tell me what you thought of Amy and Rory's story after reading more.

Angelina Jolie Jokes "Brad Thinks I'm Going to Be a Nightmare" Now That She's a Director

Angelina Jolie covers October 2011's Vanity Fair, which will be on newsstands nationwide on Sept. 6. Inside the magazine, Angelina posed for photos with daughters Vivienne and Zahara and spoke about her upcoming directorial and screenwriting debut In the Land of Blood and Honey. She revealed how she came to write and direct the picture and that Brad was helpful with constructive criticism. Angelina also touched on her family, saying she and Brad aren't expanding the Jolie-Pitt clan anytime soon. She said:

On rumors about her family: "I’m not pregnant. I’m not adopting at the moment."
On Brad's thoughts for her postdirecting future: “Brad thinks I’m going to be a nightmare. . . . I had such a good experience he thinks I’m going to be impatient with directors, which I already am. I get impatient with people working on a film that have their head in their hands like it’s the most complicated thing in the world.”
On how she came to write the script: “I had the flu. I had to be quarantined from the children for two days. I was in the attic of a house in France. I was isolated, pacing. I don’t watch TV and I wasn’t reading anything. So I started writing. I went from the beginning to the end. I didn’t know any other way. [She says she then let Brad take the script to read on a trip] He called and said, ‘You know, honey, it’s not that bad.’”
On Brad's constructive criticism: “He’d come in and say what he liked or what he didn’t understand. Like any woman, I would listen to most of it and fight a few things. He’s been so supportive. But it’s hard to separate the person that loves you from the critic, so I don’t think he’s a fair judge.”
