Turkey Pot Hold-the-Pie – A Delish Dish For Dogs

The look on this cav's face says it all – yum-o! Although, the pot pie is crustless (and served cooled to room temperature), I think pups will still love it even without the warm-your-tum or pie parts that I think of with this dish.

Learn how to make the veggie-filled, pet-friendly recipe from the September issue of Everyday Day With Rachael Ray when you read more.

Turkey Pot Hold-the-Pie
Every Day With Rachael Ray (September 2008)

Your K9 companion will get their fill of this crustless potpie! (It’s like comfort food for dogs!)

Ingredients

1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon flour
1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
¼ pound deli-sliced turkey, chopped
1 cup frozen peas and carrots, thawed
2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley

Directions
In a small skillet, heat the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour for 1 minute, then whisk in the chicken broth and bring to a boil over high heat. Lower the heat and simmer until thickened, 2 to 3 minutes.
Stir in the turkey, veggies and parsley and cook until heated through, 2 to 3 minutes. Let cool to almost room temperature, then serve.

6 Simple and Yummy Doggy-Friendly Recipes

The weather outside is no longer frightful, and most of us have freshened up our dinner menus with Summer salads, BBQ and seasonal veggies. If you don't want to just give your dog a bone, whip him up a meal that's decidedly more delicious than his usual bowl of kibble. Here are some of my favorite recipes for doggie vittles for inspiration.

Spinach and Eggy Apps For You (and Your Little Dog, Too)

Create Chinese "Fake-Out" For You (and Your Furry Friend)

Rachael Ray Scoops the Stoup for Doggies' Delight

Happy Birthday! Two Pet Cake Recipes

Doggie Tuna Casserole . . . It's What's for Dinner

Bare Bones: Good Dog Natural Treats

Tomorrow's National Dog Biscuit Day – are you ready? While perusing the aisles of my local Cost Plus World Market, along with the Gonzo, I picked up a box of Sojo's Good Dog Treats ($7) for my good dog! In addition to being 100 percent natural, they come corn, soy, and wheat free to prevent food allergies in your pup . . . and make them safe for most!

In addition to the cute packaging, what really caught my attention was the range of drool inducing options: Chicken Pot Pie, PB&J, Apple Dumpling, and Blueberry Cobbler. Enough to make me salivate, not to mention my hungry pal! In bite sizes, they won't ruin an appetite and work nicely if you're training as they're the perfect, easy reward for a well done command. Thankfully, if you can't get to Cost Plus, you can order online with free shipping.
