Were You at Petco on Saturday?

Over the weekend, I took off to find my nearest Petco here in SF to check out their Halloween costume photo extravaganza taking place at stores nationwide. Furry friends of all kinds were invited to come dressed in costume, and have a fun piccy taken to remember the fun forever. The photographs were totally inexpensive ($5 plus tax), and came with a cute pumpkin frame to boot. I didn't want to chance taking North along, since he's usually the rowdy one in the bunch and, let's face it, a rowdy pooch while other dogs are trying to sit and stay for the camera doesn't really make sense! Found! London's Striped Sweater

Huge sunglasses . . . check. Messy hair . . . check. London . . . check. Hmm, but what's this I see?! A cute, stripey top (on the dog). After some searching, and much zoom-in examining, I was shocked to find the Houndstooth Striped Sweater by DC at Petco on sale 'til 1/31 for $7.50 (originally $14.99). I'm wondering if Brit picked it up waaaay back when she also bought a goldfish at that shop . . . and a bit curious about the serious downgrading from the Kwigy-bo carrier and Little Lily dress we've spotted in the past. I couldn't bear to let lil' London wear something so basic, so see the more paps-worthy version (at twice the price) I've picked when you read more.

IMO, this heart rugby sweater is much more pantworthy. . . but let me know what you think in your comments below!

Has Anyone Tried the New Everyday Isle of Dogs Line?

Hello everyone, I have a Yorkiepoo and I have tried Isle of Dogs couture shampoos and conditioners in the past and loved them. I recently was at Petco in New York where we live and saw they have a new Everyday line and new treats and was wondering if anyone else tried them yet? I found Isle of Dogs on Facebook and, from what I read, people seem to be loving the new stuff. I did ask for a catalog on Facebook and some samples come with it, I guess. I am just wonder if anyone else has tried the stuff and if they like it?

Pet Pic of the Day: Kaia Turns Into a Reindeer!

It's a Christmas miracle - Kaia sprouted antlers and is turning into Santa's ninth reindeer! Or, I guess it could be that mom found these awesome doggie antlers at Petco for a fab holiday photo shoot. But the first scenario sounds way funner, huh?

Congrats to Kaia and chr08 for being chosen as our Pet Pic of the Day! Don't forget to submit your photos to our Pet Pics group - you may see your furry pals on the pages of PetSugar. To see how to get started uploading your pics, just read more.

I know this looks like a lot of steps, but once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze!

First of all, join the Pet Pics group.
Click the pink "Share" menu on the top left side of the page.
Choose "Photos" and “Upload Photos."
Give your Gallery a “Title.”
Fill in the “Body” with details about your pet.
Click “Groups and Privacy" just below the "Search Title" box.
Choose the audience for your story to “Pet Pics!” in the dropdown menu.
Change channel to “Pets.”
Fill in tag field with relevant tags.
Click “I’m done” to submit content.

So join the Pet Pics group and share photos of your adorable pets! Yours just might end up on the PetSugar homepage!

For this petmarking mission, let's pick out holiday toys for our furry friends – they've got to have at least one lil special surprise, even if it's nothing extravagant. The only catch is that your finds are reasonably priced goodies (let's aim for under $30) and fit under the umbrella theme of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, you get the picture.

The Scoop: Pampered Pets to the Economy's Rescue

Even if you don't exactly consider your pet to be your "child", experts say many people are as dedicated to their animals as parents are to children . . . and will sacrifice themselves before trimming back on four-legged friends. It's expected that Americans will spend $43.4 billion this year on their pets – although that's down from the original prediction, pet pampering doesn't show many signs of slowing down. Morningstar analyst R.J. Hottovy says:

It's definitely more resilient than most categories tied to discretionary spending. It's one of the last categories (people) cut out of their budget.

I couldn't agree more as my weekend trip to Petco found me picking up a bag of gourmet treats for my lil guy in addition to a 20-lb. bag of dog food – while I'm not willing to downgrade my pups' food, I am trying to buy in bulk to save some money. Is the analyst's statement true for you, too?
