Trend Setters: Furry Streakers

Well, well, well, the first question that came to my mind when I saw these pups (after why) was how, 'cause I know there's at least someone out there wondering how to follow the trend of these pooches snapped in LA. In fact, the streaked pups remind me of lil Preston's way of standing out on the set of Greatest American Dog. Since North already has a dark mask, ears, and back half, he's not quite a candidate but if you think this is cool not cruel, I've found the products for you.

For $25, you can pick up a tub of non-toxic, semi-permanent dye specifically formulated for pets in a gel product that's less messy than liquid alternatives. Coming in nine shades, the colors even include black if you fancy making a Maltese look more Boston Terrier or even Dalmatian while you're at it!

Pet Dye Jobs: Cool or Cruel?

I was kind of at a loss when I saw this pic of a Westie outside of the Republican National Convention – talk about a serious dye job! I'm hoping that the owner of this pooch used a pet safe dye on his dog, since using human grade hair color, or even food coloring can be super harmful to your pets' skin!

Although I would never do this to North, what do you think about dyeing your pet's fur?

Good Reads: Fur Shui

You've heard of Feng Shui, right? It's the idea that the Chi (or energy) that flows through your home should be balanced. If you are a believer in the practice, author Paula Brown says the same principal can be applied to your pets! In her new book Fur Shui, Paula tells us how balancing your pets' chi can create a more balanced life for both you and your furry pals:

Just like Feng Shui, Fur Shui works off of the ancient Chinese principal that energy areas in your home correspond with a color. For example the health and knowledge area is yellow, and the family section is green. So theoretically, if you tie a yellow ribbon on your doggie's crate, he will have good health! And if your kitty is having socialization or family issues, put a green bell on him to nurture healthy family chi. Although Fur Shui is not a substitute for regular veterinary care, I'm not opposed to new ways to make sure North and I are in total energy harmony. Dog Days of Summer: Who's at Risk of Sunburn?

It's not just the hairless pups getting sunburned! All dogs and outdoor cats are at risk with those with light skin, light-colored or recently shaved fur, or pink noses having a slightly higher chance of this problem. Sunburn can cause ulcerations, which makes pets more susceptible to yucky infections, and as sun damage occurs, skin cells die and can release proteins that inappropriately trigger the immune system. Because the repeated, excessive exposure to UV radiation can lead to issues like squamous cell carcinoma, breeds that are predisposed to cancer (such as boxers and Weimaraners) need extra protection no matter what!

Next time you lather on the sunblock and head out for some summertime fun, don't forget to protect your pets, too! To learn which areas are at risk, read more.

Common problem spots in pets include tips of ears, bridges of noses, and any area with shorter hair or exposed skin – apply sunscreen here first. However, I was surprised when my vet also told me that stomaches, groins, and insides of legs are at risk, too! The sunlight reflects up on these areas from the hot sidewalk or sand and the sunblock put there can be the first to be rubbed off in the grass or licked off by inquiring tongues. Is Tinkerbell an Impostor?

Paris is coming under fire once again. This time it's not for any video documented exploits, but instead for maybe, possibly using a Tinkerbell impostor. You remember Tinkerbell, right? It's true we haven't seen much of the Chihuahua since she disappeared for a few days back in 2004, but is that any reason to worry? US Weekly thinks so. They are saying Paris recently brought a Chihuahua onto the set of The Hottie and The Nottie and claimed it was Tinkerbell, but that the dog had slightly different coloring than the original pup. She's really done it this time! Once again her rep has issued a full statement to stop this career-ending scandal before it gets any further. Here's more:

“There’s only one Tinkerbell,” Hilton’s rep insists, explaining “The color of Chihuahuas change as they grow older.”

But according to pet expert Charlotte Reed, author of “The Miss Fido Manners Complete Book of Dog Etiquette,” fur may grey with age, but dog nail color stays the same.

“In the older pic, Tinkerbell has a black nail, while in the new one, the nail is white,” she told Us. “I don’t think it’s the same dog.”

Forget Paris Exposed - this is more outrageous! We're betting the humane society will be all over Paris for this. For more pics just read more
