I can't stand the rain, North can't stand the rain, and many of you also have pets that can't stand the rain. Even though it's a touch early for April showers, we've been drowning out here in SF. I've gathered up some chic ways to keep furry friends' fur dry, like this full-on rain suit. To the Rescue: Does My Dog Need a Jacket?

I admit there's plenty of fashionable (and bizarre) dog clothing out there, but here's one of the most common questions I get: "Dogs have fur, isn't it silly to put anything else on them?" Well, the answer I give without fail is vague, but true: It depends. While a Samoyed in Minnesota may not need a heavy coat, it's possible that a Chihuahua may need one on a chilly night in the Valley. As a general guideline, smaller dogs with shorter coats will be more likely to need that extra layer than a larger, long-haired pet.
The best way to tell what your animal needs is to watch his behavior. If your Italian Greyhound is shivering or trying to enter every open door on his evening walk around the city, chances are, he'd appreciate an extra layer. Remember, more activity makes your pets warmer just like running will make you break into a sweat faster than a leisurely stroll, so a pup sitting outside will get colder than when chasing his pals around a NYC dog park. Use your judgment and don't let anyone else decide for you.

Does Your Dog Have an Ugly Sweater?

I've heard about those ugly sweater parties, but I've never actually been to one. However, when I learned about Petfinder's Ugly Sweater Contest for dogs, I was intrigued. 'Cause North is totally photogenic and I'd much rather make him look foolish than myself any day!

Don't worry if your furry friend doesn't have an ugly sweater, you can also submit a photo of your pet's "winter digs" and enter the contest by Sunday, Nov. 23. The winner will get his (or her) very own e-card on Petfinder.com!

Trend Setters: Crewmutts Get True Blue For Fall

Brrr, can you feel that nip in the air? I know North can so I want my peppy, preppy pup to take advantage of furry Fall fashions – cooler colors and warm knits. This season's Crewmutts (from J. Crew) line now offers some great blue totes, textured sweaters, and darker madras styles. You may recall their summery madras of seasons past, but the latest versions also have a removable sherpa lining for additional warm cozies heading straight into Winter.

These Witty, Weathered Tees Win Giggles and Wagging Tails

I've already shared my love for vintage tees, so I was super psyched to see these breed pride tanks. Only, there's no Boston. Sigh. For the rest of you with furry trendsetters, check out these snarky, distressed tees, if not to buy, simply to read all the silly sayings from "yorkie to happiness" to "I don't give a shih-tzu" – haha!

North Wears a Tie and Lives "The Good Life"

My ever-dapper lil gentleman looks even more so with this new collar I picked up at The Hip Hound in Portland over the weekend! I mean, seriously, how much more adoro can he possibly get?I first mentioned these cute tie collars from The Good Life a while back, so it's about time I bought one of my his very own. Since he would sport both a harness and a collar for walkies, it makes a nice addition on special occasions – he got even more awwwws from strangers last night than he usually does . . . and that's saying a lot.

I couldn't resist making him pose for the camera and I think he has both regal and lazy down pat!

Trend Setters: Madras Crewmutts

North's def a prepster (when he's not being a little bit punk rock, that is). Of all the fun styles from polka dots to camo, one pattern noticeably absent from his collection is madras – not only does it remind me of boat trips on the east coast, but it's a nice way to inject a summer style to pet essentials. Somewhere between patchwork and plaid, this fabric is super casual for those warm afternoons on the Cape. I personally love the Crewmutts line by J. Crew with three different color combinations in authentic cotton madras from India. The small bed is preptastically perfect for little crewmutts (or large crewcats) with this design on one side and acrylic sherpa on the other and, dare I say, it pairs nicely with matching leather-backed leashes and collars that you'll see when you read more.

Is Kitty's Dress Up Time Super Scratchy or Super Simple?

I love seeing festive collars on both doggies and kitties but, admittedly, have a lot less personal experience trying to coax a cat into a special get-up – and I've heard enough tales to make me scared to try! My childhood feline, Precious, was tricky enough to lure into her crate for the vet and, to this day, I still can't imagine trying to coo her into a fancy collar or costume. All you kitty owners out there, tell me the truth, could you dress your cat . . . and escape unscathed or unscratched?

The Cat in the Hat . . . Literally

It's one of my favorite felines in the entire universe, BellaSugar's Milo! Whether they're being stinky or silly, I love hearing tales of both of her cats. And, OMG, score (!) when she shared these super cute piccys with me. Always thinking of her furry friends, she picked up some fun accessories for her pets at Target (for just $2.99 each) – and, of course, the requisite supermodel session ensued! Shine a Light 'Cause Your Doggie Is a Rolling Stone

When I learned from my pal, BuzzSugar, about the new Martin Scorsese documentary Shine a Light (opening today), I knew I had to share fun Rolling Stones-themed pet gear right now! While we've definitely been getting North in on the rocker pet trend, why not let him share music (I think) he likes listening to. While some of the items are right up his alley – like hoodies for early morning breaks – I can't exactly see him in coveralls . . . or overalls. But the trademark tongue logo does resemble him after a hilly walk, so check out all the gear when you read more.
