The Scoop: Is This Actually the World's Oldest Dog?

While Chanel was crowned the "World's Oldest Dog" by the Guinness Book of World Records just months before her death, news has come of another elderly pooch that could be the new (rightful) titleholder. This is Penny photographed on Sept. 4 in Ronsberg, Germany - according to her owner, Verena Wulf, she's 25! While it's trickier to verify age with unregistered, non-purebred pups for lack of records, I'm curious to know how her story plays out - do you think this pooch will soon get a cake and a press conference, too, or are you still satisfied with Chanel? Blake Takes Penny's Basic Bed To-Go

Peek-a-boo, I see you! Blake Lively arrived on the NYC set of Gossip Girl yesterday with a furry friend in tow. Pretty Penny gets spoiled with sweet treats like cozy Winter accessories, and now she's being carried around in her fluffy donut bed. What a life!

I'm a fan of the basic donut bed, not only because it's durable and washable, but you can make it even better with a few personal touches. Just like a great wardrobe, start with the basics and jazz it up! Make it green by adding eco stuffing (once the stock stuffing goes limp and lumpy), and infuse your own style with cool custom covers. Besides, Blake knows a thing or two about fashion, so she's probably got a whole dresser full of fun accessories for Penny!

Does Blake Lively Think Penny's a Cat?

Penny sure knows how to stare down the paps as this pup proudly poses on the set of Gossip Girl in Central Park yesterday. While I'm happy to see his pooch standing pretty (and glad she's not too overdressed now that it's Summer), I'm a bit confused by that collar. Is it just me or is this pooch wearing a bell? Now many of you choose collars that jingle jangle for cats, but for pups as well . . . wow. There's always the risk this teensy pup will get tangled up underfoot so perhaps the bell just announces her arrival – I see you, Penny!

Celeb Redo: A Better Doggie Bag For Susan Sarandon

I love to see celebs getting snuggly with their pooches, so how delighted was I to catch this glimpse of Susan Sarandon and her lil Maltese?! Even so, I'm less pleased to witness the furry-pal-inside-purse phenom later that night.

Granted, the two were attending Longchamp's 60th Anniversary celebration in NYC, so the Legende Satchel was a must-have, but where's a proper tote for her precious pet, Penny? Next time, hopefully she'll carry that metallic trend with an appropriate luxe, gold (dog) bag like these below.

Found! Pretty Penny's Cozy Sweater

Snuggled up under that down jacket, it's hard to tell what lil Penny's wearing! Working with limited visibility, I'm coming to my own conclusions about the sweater – after all, I can see gray-colored stripes. Get a similar effect with the Juicy Couture Dog Sweater Gift Set now 50 percent off at $41.90 (orig $85). The catch is, it's only left in XS. The neat (or scary) part about this Doggy Couture set is that it also includes four matchy-matchy legwarmers and a scarf. I really can't wait 'til Gossip Girl returns – I mean Penny makes cameos behind the scenes so much, would it really hurt to give her a bit part? Clearly Blake doesn't discriminate against other dogs, see her meet a new pooch on the set when you read more.

Saving Pennies Is Poisonous!

Please tell me I'm not the only one with a pet that wants to eat everything including the kitchen sink?! While I'm careful to keep my purse out of his reach ('cause of gum), what if he sniffs his nosy nose into my wallet and comes up with a penny?

If you think this poses no extra risk than other inedible objects, you'd be wrong! Although the coins originally contained 95 percent copper and 5 percent zinc until 1982, after that the proportion changed.

After 1982, coins became copper-plated zinc, 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper. Zinc causes kidney failure and damage to red blood cells and a pet (be it dog, cat or even bird) that eats just one cent can become very ill or die, if it's not removed promptly!

I think these treats look fab, not just because I love cupcakes, but also because North's birthday is only one month away! The Penny Cupcakes are named for a fave friend of Isaboo and are safe treats for pets . . . but still yummy enough for you, too! Found in the June/July issue of Every Day With Rachael Ray, get the recipe for yum-o spiced banana and carrot cakes when you read more.

Penny Cupcakes
Every Day With Rachael Ray (June / July 2008)

This confectionery creation is an adapted, healthier version of carrot-and-banana cake that you can share with your K-9 companion!

Ingredients

2 very ripe bananas, mashed
1 carrot, grated, plus more for garnish
1 large egg
¼ cup honey
4 cups whole wheat flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking powder
6 ounces softened cream cheese, optional

Directions
Preheat the oven to 350°. Grease two 12-cup muffin pans. In a large bowl, mix together the mashed bananas, carrot, egg and honey; stir in 3 cups water.
In another large bowl, stir together flour, cinnamon, allspice, ginger and baking powder; mix into the carrot mixture.
Fill each muffin cup about three-quarters full. Bake until firm and dry, about 45 minutes. Let cool, then top each cupcake with more grated carrot and smear with cream cheese if desired.

Oh, Adam! How I hate to know you struggle, but how I love to see you do it (or anything, really). As cute as he looks with his hands full, somebody better get this dude a tandem dog leash! My fave is the cushy Lars Z-Tandem. At only $60, it's not much more than R-Bils' leash for Thurman Murman. And it works for two dogs like this unidentified pal with Penny Lane - or in case of a romantic reunion/joint custody of the original furry fam.
