If your dog's trudging through snow or scampering on icy sidewalks treated with salt, it's important to keep their paw pads protected. Granted this can look a bit silly to nondog owners, but it's important since the lime-rock or calcium chloride melts are poisonous to pets. Shoes prevent the risk of a pup cutting or licking his feet, but I can tell you from experience, it's hard to find ones that stay on! If you're in the market for a new set, the ones Reuben wears here come personally recommended by the Goldendoodle's human mom, Beaner, who says:

Never Carry a Slobbery Ball Back From the Dog Park Again!

It's another great idea! It may look like a standard tennis ball/plush toy combo for your pampered pooches when in fact it's an item that makes your life easier.

Don't let your pups play with Daisy the Lab ($5) – you see, this doggie head clips onto your pets' leashes, or your bag. It comes with the tennis ball shown, but fits any standard sized one. So, if your dog doesn't want to carry the toy the entire way in his chompers, let this fella do the dirty work (especially after he's done slobbering it)!

Hydrate Fido With WaterDog

Well, it's a true snow day in NYC as the flurries just keep falling and falling! The storm is expected to dump up to 10 inches of snow on the region and, on behalf of all those cold-weather pooches out there, hooray! If you're trapped somewhere wintery today, brush up on my tips for cold weather and pets before heading outside to play. Keep in mind there's lower visibility for both you and dogs so, if your pooches are off leash, make sure they're in a safe spot like the crew snapped at Prospect Park this afternoon!

Ten Tips 'Til the Holiday: City Sidewalks

In many states, it is legal to put down lime-rock salt or calcium-chloride salt to melt the snow on city streets. However, this seemingly innocuous substance is very poisonous to dogs – when pups return inside, and lick their paws, it can cause them to throw up (or worse). Also, its rough texture can cut their little feet and put salt in their wounds, literally . . . ouch! When animals who have walked on salt-covered paths return home, be sure to clean paws off thoroughly or put booties on them before they go outside. Remember trudging through snowbanks in your boots is completely different than pooches wading through the cold stuff up to their bellies! Consider toting a little shovel or pointy-tipped umbrella to clear a trail for your pup to do his business on snowy roads.

Spring and Summer are obviously great times to bond with your pets outside and get reacquainted with nature, so there's no better time than this Fourth of July holiday to break in the shorts, sneaks, and summertime leashes in preparation for the many hours you'll be logging in the open air. The Great Outdoors: Menu Wasp Trap

When the weather heats up this Summer, there's no doubt that you and your pampered pals will be outside spending some quality time with the BBQ, sprinklers, and endless hours tossing tennis balls. But the one thing you probably don't want to spend time with (but will no doubt be a big part of your Summer vacay) are those pesky wasps. You could string up a run of the mill wasp or fly trap – which can be big eyesore, especially if you're hosting a garden party – or you can get this fetching outdoor Wasp Trap ($31) from Menu.

Menu's organic wasp trap will keep the pests away from you, your food, and Fido's fave lounging spot. With a simple formula of sugar and vinegar, this trap is not only safe, but nice to look at too. Ways to Keep Halloween Fun, Not Frightful, For Furry Friends

The decorations are up and the candy's bought, but have your prepped your pets for this big day? Remember never force an animal into an outfit and keep him out of harm's way.

Who are you? Where am I? Costumes are scary and seeing Mom and Dad in masks or other bizarre ensembles can freak out your furry family (and kids). Similarly, all those spooky decorations, especially those that move and talk are equally frightful for observant pups.
No loose animals today. Don't leave pets in your yard on Halloween and bring indoor/outdoor cats inside. Disguises can cause people to behave differently and you don't want a pet to be teased, injured, scared (or worse!) by pranksters tonight.

Get two more tips when you read more.

Crowd control. If your pet will accompany your family trick-or-treating or to a parade, watch out for tiny pups under big feet. Make sure your dog is OK with strangers and noise before you set out and return home immediately if you see pooch is stressed. If you're throwing a pet-friendly bash, keep candy and chocolate away and follow these tips.
Minimal stress spots only. I know North freaks out at the doorbell and, if I lived in an area with trick-o-treaters, I would drop him off at a pet hotel for the night. If you think a pooch will get panicked by the constant buzzer, or frustrated that he can't go out, either sequester him in another part of the house away from candy or place a sign on the doorbell asking for knocks only, please.
