If your dog's trudging through snow or scampering on icy sidewalks treated with salt, it's important to keep their paw pads protected. Granted this can look a bit silly to nondog owners, but it's important since the lime-rock or calcium chloride melts are poisonous to pets. Shoes prevent the risk of a pup cutting or licking his feet, but I can tell you from experience, it's hard to find ones that stay on!

It's another great idea! It may look like a standard tennis ball/plush toy combo for your pampered pooches when in fact it's an item that makes your life easier.
Don't let your pups play with Daisy the Lab ($5) – you see, this doggie head clips onto your pets' leashes, or your bag.

If your pet frolics in the backyard during Summer months, providing water is absolutely necessary! Hot dogs may not pant when they are thirsty, but still need refreshment when the play gets vigorous and their body temps rise. Instead of just adding a bowl (which can become stagnant and harbor diseases like Giardia), the WaterDog ($79) offers the cold beverage on tap whenever he's ready to sip.

Well, it's a true snow day in NYC as the flurries just keep falling and falling! The storm is expected to dump up to 10 inches of snow on the region and, on behalf of all those cold-weather pooches out there, hooray! If you're trapped somewhere wintery today, brush up on my tips for cold weather and pets before heading outside to play.

In many states, it is legal to put down lime-rock salt or calcium-chloride salt to melt the snow on city streets. However, this seemingly innocuous substance is very poisonous to dogs – when pups return inside, and lick their paws, it can cause them to throw up (or worse). Also, its rough texture can cut their little feet and put salt in their wounds, literally .

Ahh, Summer. A time for barbecues, laying in the sun, and playing in the park with North! Spring and Summer are obviously great times to bond with your pets outside and get reacquainted with nature, so there's no better time than this Fourth of July holiday to break in the shorts, sneaks, and summertime leashes in preparation for the many hours you'll be logging in the open air.
