It's nearly time for this year's Academy Awards, and we're all gearing up for the big night! Buzz has a fun Oscar ballot contest, and Yum already gave us a sweet peek at what they'll be snacking on at the Governors Ball. I love the red carpet . . . especially the glamorous gowns! Even though, most of us wouldn't deck a pup all matchy matchy, there's no reason why we can't aspire to having an outfit for our furry friends that would make even a celebrity jealous! Last year, doggie designer Littly Lily created replica gowns for pets – so see how they measure up to the couture. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next! Every year in February, celebs are gifted with swag beyond my wildest dreams at The Oscars. This year, the mother of all award shows has taken note of the number of celebrities with pets - and apparently recognizing how much we all spend on our little companions - Oscar included some pretty sweet items for Fido and Sassy as well.

With past people prizes generally being electronics, spa treatments, and fancy trips, this year the goodies also included some high-end pet beauty products, clothing, and things that sparkle. Will Loki Be Mickey's Date to the Oscars?

Golden Globe winner Mickey Rourke stopped by The View today to chat about his pups . . . and joked (or not?!) about bringing his 17-and-a-half-year-old Chihuahua, Loki, as his date for the Oscars. I would definitely tune in to see that since I already melted when he thanked his dogs at the last awards show. No wonder he gives them so much credit – he's got quite a few to keep him company. Charmed Life: Mickey Rourke's Special Way to Remember Loki

Although Loki couldn't walk the red carpet since Mickey Rourke's beloved Chihuahua passed away last week, I did spot a familiar face on that necklace.Seems not only does he keep this pup close to his heart, he wears her face on a charm around his neck. Since he didn't pick up a golden statue last night, I also noticed his necklace at the weekend's Independent Spirit Awards, when he nearly teared up mentioning his "baby."

Puppy Love: Upstaged

While some people use dogs to get digits, others (like one of the stars of this short) think it's "such a lame and expected gimmick." No Animals Were Harmed During the Making of This Movie...

I'll admit that the gory plotline of last night's big winner No Country For Old Men made the film not appeal to me - I'm a movie wuss at even the slightest hint of violence and bloodshed! However, despite the dark subject matter (which included the shooting of a dog), the set was monitored and detailed evaluations were given . . . no pups were hurt during the making of this film.

The American Humane Association (not to be confused with the animal protection organization, the Humane Society of the United States) has overseen movie sets since 1940 to make sure animal actors stay safe while portraying heroes, villains, companions, and comedians. Even in films (and commercials) where animals are shown in passing, this organization will be on set to monitor practices and offer ratings from unacceptable (where disregard for safety directly caused the injury or death of an animal) to outstanding. No Country for Old Men was awarded the "monitored: outstanding" designation meaning that AHA observed the filmmaking, screened the finished product, and cross-checked all animal action seen on screen, and offered it the end credit disclaimer of "No Animals Were Harmed."

Registry Alert! Hasani Has a Ball . . . But Needs More

This baby gorilla lives up to his name's meaning for sure – I can't get enough of Mr. "Handsome!" He's nearly four months old and can now make his way around the exhibit, giving keepers his winning gaze and grin. Since it's not yet time for Hasani to come on public display (but count me there!), this zoo offers a Nursery Cam on site from 12 to 2 p.m. daily if you live in SF.

Since he's been seen around the world in that naming contest, if you want to give him a treat, check out Oscar Jonesy and Monifa's online gift registry.
