Canines Competed In (and Completed) Obstacle Courses?

OK, so most of your cats weren't exactly lining up to complete a feline agility competition . . . don't feel bad, you don't want to scare Sassy or get scratched in the process! Maybe we should leave it to the pro cats out there that can't get enough. But, what about your doggies? Any of you have sporty pups like Nala here that have competed (and won!) in time-trial obstacle courses or other agility events?

I know many pups love doing agility and obstacle runs, but who knew kitties could do them, too? The big CFA-Iams Cat Championship held over the weekend at Madison Square Garden featured this event in addition to an adoption area and breed showcase and judging. Bring Your Pleo to Work Day!

Sadly, North couldn't come with me to work on Take Your Dog To Work Day, but Pleo could! This dinosaur, which I renamed Lexi, is a robotic alternapet and makes a interesting – albeit a bit noisy – addition to a non-pet-friendly workplace. North already sniffed her out so I brought her in to Sugar HQ to see if she could blend in. She stayed fairly quiet under my desk . . . until GiggleSugar turned her upside down by her tail . . . and boy was she loud then!

It takes a while for this dino to wake up and pass through life phases. The more you play, the quicker it goes so I tried to pet her in between my blog postings. Once she grows up, she's totally responsive to sight, sound, and touch – if you scratch under her chin, she totally moves closer for more. Our favorite thing to watch is how Lexi knows to go around items placed in her path so we were setting up soda can/notebook/granola box obstacle courses for this robot. Although the product's recommended for children eight and up, check out much lil Katie Sugar loved the green dinosaur in this video!

Bunny Love!

I looooove bunnies. This precious duo came out for Santa Barbara's Bunny Festival last weekend. Lucky rabbits – there were carrot eating contests, pampering massages at "Spa Bunne," and even the Bunny Olympics where agility trained rabbits did hurdles, obstacle courses, and even played basketball! I still haven't worked out in my head how a bunny could play anything resembling basketball but, since I wasn't able to make it, I'll take their word for it.

The event is put on by Bunnies Urgently Needing Shelter (B.U.N.S.), a crucial volunteer organization to help abandoned rabbits. So many people adopt baby rabbits then realize they don't have the patience to care for them once they grow up. As when choosing any pet, make sure you have enough energy to dedicate to their needs.

The problem with abandoned bunnies has gotten so serious in some cities (San Francisco, included) that there are city ordinances prohibiting the sale of rabbits. Unless you have the space and time to dedicate, be like me and do your bunny admiring from afar!
