In addition to the fashion show I shared yesterday, Tokyo's New Year Dog Party also included something for the sportier crowd. Now I've done Ruff Yoga in NYC, but let's just say North (and nearly all of the other pooches in that class) didn't exactly have getting fit with their owners as first on their agendas – most of my workout was trying to convince him that he recalled words like sit, down, and please don't try to eat that minpin's ears. See these behavior superstars for yourself, though, when you read more

After nearly three years of litigation (!), the case of Dexter has come to an end. When Doreen Houseman and Eric Dare ended their relationship in May 2006, a New Jersey court ruled Eric could keep their pug since it was in his possession at the time. However, earlier this year, an appeals panel reversed the decision saying the judge neglected to consider the dog's "subjective value", making him more like a family heirloom or work of art that cannot simply be awarded to one party for a face-value payment — Doreen received $1,500 — no one can measure Dexter's exact worth.

I'd have to say my favorite part of last night's events, was when the president-elect announced to his young daughters, "Sasha and Malia, I love you both so much, and you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House." Don't you just love it when celebrities use their fame to do good for animals?! Well-known animal advocate Bernadette Peters created an event a decade ago with pal Mary Tyler Moore called Broadway Barks, to raise money for New York-area shelters. Year after year, she lends her support to rescue groups and promotes shelter adoptions .

One of Santa's little helpers at this year's Petchitecture event was Michael Cunningham, owner of one of my fave pet shops here in the city, Babies. He donated tons of tasty treats to please the furry guests, and buckets of goodies for the silent auction that brought in much needed funds for the Pets are Wonderful Support (PAWS), a volunteer-based organization that provides for the comprehensive needs of companion animals for low-income persons with HIV/AIDS, other disabling illnesses, and senior citizens. Since I dig his store (and his big heart), I thought I would give you a tour at Babies' brand new location at Laguna and Linden in the hip Hayes Valley area of San Francisco.

She was named the worst celebrity dog owner for 2006 by both The Hollywood Dog and The New York Dog magazines. Her old friend Paris won the crown as worst dog owner last year.
