Chip In For Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms of kiddies both human and furry! Since I'm no stranger to treating myself to a lil something extra for my year of hard work caring for North, I've got some ways you can treat the pet parenting pals of your own.

Stop by. Most dog owners would love to pass the leash off to a friend for QT walktime, so just ask - even if they say no, you can be the pet's indoor BFF for a couple hours instead.

Get two more ideas when you read more.

Pitch in. If you've got a sig-o who usually does the early a.m. or late p.m. doodie duty, offer to take it over for the day (or the whole week if you're generous).

Bring snacks. The way to any tummy and many hearts is through the mouth - save mom's time and bake up snacks for a furry friend (and maybe for the humans, too).

Darling Mother's Day Gifts For Dog Moms

I don't know about you, but I expect my lil guy to spoil me rotten this Sunday in honor of Mother's Day. Sure, he can't serve me gingerbread pancakes in bed or call my favorite salon for a mani-pedi appointment, but I'll be celebrating my doggie motherhood with the best of them - champagne glass (and leash!) in hand.

Do You Buy Yourself a Mother's Day Gift From a Pet?

One sunny May Sunday in NYC, shortly before North's first birthday, I was doing some shopping of my own when I saw a pretty white eyelet skirt. Now did I need this item? No, definitely not. But did I want it? Absolutely. I remember desperately searching for a reason to justify such an impractical purchase (white being not the most ideal color to wear on dirty subway rides or walks with muddy-pawed pups), yet I couldn't. I was about to leave the store and decided to call my mom to wish her a Happy Mother's Day, and take my mind off the skirt, when it hit me. I could buy myself the skirt, but consider it a Mother's Day pressie from my lil pooch. Admittedly, I've never done it after that first time back in 2003, but it seemed like a brilliant idea at the time. Am I alone here? Professional Pet Photography: A Great Mother's Day Gift

I love taking pictures of North . . . even when he doesn't feel like sitting still for the camera! It'd be totally neat to get a professional to get some cute piccys, but I fear even the best professional would be left with close-up shots of his tongue or tail! So, I thought I would do some research and, while browsing, I came across this awesome LA-based studio called Shine Pet Photography that takes some a-ma-zing shots of cats and dogs alike. Coincidentally, Apartment Therapy thought so too and did a piece on photographer Grace Chon back in February. Seems like everyone is recognizing her talents and it's definitely deserved!

After drooling awhile over client proofs, and checking out her blog (which features even more cuteness than you can handle), it hit me that this would make a great Mother's Day Gift for a pet mom! What's better than an awesome and classy shot of your furry beloved to hang right next to your family photos? I can't think of anything I'd like more. How about you? Gifts for the Dog Mom

Being a Dog Mom myself, I would hope that North would celebrate me on Mother's Day (if, of course, he knew what Mother's Day was). There's a lot that goes into caring for an animal, and it's definitely not an easy task. I've told my own mother that this certainly can be considered practice for a real baby, since I spend quite a bit of my free time hanging out with the little guy, taking him for walks in the park, and making sure he's healthy, just like a mom to someone of the human species would. And, if my North could talk, I know that he would say, "Thanks and I love you!"

So with the upcoming holiday in mind, let's spread the love and show all those Dog Moms out there we care. If you have a friend or relative that is a Dog Mom, she deserves some QT and a few goodies of her own. Especially since sacrificing those hot stilettos for a few trips to the doggie spa isn't easy. Wacky Pet's Eye View Camera for Nosy Pet Moms

Although the concept of the Digital Pet Cam – allowing you to peek in on your homebound pals during the workday – is pretty sweet, this one might be too wacky for my taste . . . plus I'm sure North would have it as a snack before the day is through! Found on Gizmodo, the Pet's Eye View Cam ($50) attaches to your dog's collar for a new perspective on what Fido does while you're hitting the grind. But, to be fair, it's coming from a kids' website so it might be cool to see what it's like to be a dog for a day when you're nine years old!

This USB cam takes photos in intervals of one, five, and fifteen minutes, and stores up to 35 photos in its internal memory. Although you can't view the photos right away like the digital pet cam, it does come with the appropriate cable so you can download the snapshots and print up to 4x6 prints . . . if you think the piccys are interesting enough to print that is! It might make a great gift for a gadget-loving kid, or as a fun little Mother's Day gift for a dog mom with a sense of humor.
