Pampered Pals: Litter-Garage

When I first spotted this on moderncat, I thought it was a prototype for a futuristic creation. However, much to my surprise, the Litter-Garage ($180) already exists. According to the manufacturer's website, it only takes an hour of installation (provided you have an existing cat door) and is a safe way to stash the stinky box in the garage without worrying about a feline taking a nap under your car. And how well-prepared you'll be come clean up time – there's space for a scoop, waste bags, and even antibacterial handwipes, too. Kitty's poo stays out of sight, while your lil kitty-poo stays on the top of your mind.

Spring Cleaning: Litter Box

If you have a cat, you know the litter box can be a royal pain to keep clean and smell free! Not only do you want to keep it from repelling your house guests, but it must appeal to your kitty as well. Now not all litters are created equal, so if you find that your cat isn't using his litter box, you may be using a litter that smells bad to him. I know, totally picky, but true!

Research shows that many cats prefer fine-grained, fragrance-free litters, and even a room deodorizer next to the litter box can be mistaken for a fragrant box and your cat could run the other way! For a few tips, plus my fave litter box furniture picks, just read more.

Try sprinkling a thin layer of baking soda at the bottom of the litter box for more odor and wetness absorption. Or, if you find that your feline is one to use your houseplants or garden as his own personal litter box, next time you're refilling, mix in some potting soil with the litter for a familiar and safe smell.

Refined Litter Box Vs. Modern Litter Box

This question came up with a friend of mine recently: She has two cats living in a small apartment here in San Francisco, and likes to entertain guests. I asked if she would rather have a litter box cabinet, like the Refined Litter Box, that could hide away kitties' litter, but still pull double duty as a counter top, or if she would rather have an attractive and modern litter box since it would be sitting out anyway like the Litter/Bed Combo. Why hide it if you know it's there!?

It took longer than I thought it would for her to weigh out the pros and cons, and her answer kind of surprised me, given that she has so many people visiting her home. So which would you rather have – a hideaway litter box, or an attractive, visible one instead?

Pampered Pals: Porta-Potties For Kitties

Many times it can seem like cat owners get the short end of the stick when it comes to traveling with pets. While some kitties like to be outside sometimes or enjoy the occasional walk, I imagine prepping for a trip with a feline who's just getting started with the frequent flier (or driver) points can be overwhelming. One of the key things to provide for a cat is a litter box but, when you're away, lugging the big home edition can be more than a little annoying. I've rounded up some small travel boxes that will do just great on the road. In addition to this biodegradable one made of recycled paper, there's another eco-tastic one made of 100-percent recycled plastic, too, so check them all out when you read more.

I Need Your Help . . . Spring Cleaning For Cats' Litter Box!

No one wants to smell a pet before you see her, and I think cleaning up can be one of the trickiest balances to manage, especially for litter boxes. Many felines are finicky about which type and time they like to use and that doesn't always correspond with keeping the freshest scent.

I've recommended to sprinkle a thin layer of odor-fighting baking soda in the bottom of the box, but I'm curious which litter brand/box you use and if it could improve. So share your best litter products or tips to spring clean the kitty's box . . . and keep it that way well into the next season.

If I had a cat, I'd get all my furniture essentials from Moderncat Designs! I featured the Litter Box/Bed Combo before, but now MCD has a covered version. It must be pretty popular, cause it's already sold out on their website! And, at $200, this classy and modern litter box is less expensive than others we've seen, and is much cooler if you ask me. I think this alternate model would make the perfect addition to your already streamlined home, and keep your kitty's litter nice and hidden.
