Silly Injuries That Could Derail Your Fitness

Part of a fit lifestyle, in my opinion, is living life to the fullest. Taking advantage of each moment and doing something fun is just as important for living a fit and healthy lifestyle as a proper fitness routine. Unfortunately, sometimes those two things get in the way of each other, and the most well-lived moments can turn into injuries that can sideline your workout routine. In the spirit of full disclosure, here are a few of the silly injuries I've recently received and a few suggested solutions for averting disaster.

Slave to fashion: Thinking I'd only be out of my Las Vegas hotel room for a few hours (famous last words), I donned a pair of sky-high heels. A few hours turned into many hours, and that turned into an incredibly sore IT band. I'm a runner, so that was not ideal; each step I took during runs for a week reminded me of my five-inch heel mistake.
Solution: When in Vegas, wear heels . . . I get it. But it would have been prudent to stash a pair of those slip-on shoes that take up about the same amount of purse real estate as a compact. Lesson learned. Alternatively? If you're stuck in heels, sit when you can and pay attention to how you're walking. Had I just slowed down and walked properly, I don't think I would have had close to the same problem.

I feel for Lindsay Lohan. A tripped alarm sent the popo over to her LA home and it was so messy they thought her apartment had been "ransacked." Turns out, this is what it always looks like, and now the whole world knows!

I won't lie: my default mode is messy. I fight the good fight, but sometimes the mess wins. Books where they shouldn't be, clothes thrown hither and thither, the previous night's dinner party dishes sitting in the sink. A busy girl has better things to do than clean the apartment, I rationalize. And then I start cleaning again. . .reluctantly.

In addition to producing great literature and perfume, the French can now boast that they they also have the most sated sleepers and eaters. Among the world's wealthiest nations, France has a populace that sleeps and eats longer than anyone, including Spaniards, Italians, and Americans.

The average French person sleeps almost nine hours every night, and more than two hours a day are spent eating. Wow. Maybe if I eat a lot of amazingly stinky cheese with bread and red wine (slowly, of course), I can catch up on my zzzzz's!

Do You Talk Extended Family with Your Pets?

I've already asked if you'd consider yourself parents (or if you'd buy a Mother's Day gift from a pet), however I'm curious to know how you refer to other animals in your home and friends in your life? I've been known to refer to close friends by names like "Uncle Michael" and "Auntie Dionne," but I admit it sounds funny (especially to only child me)! And even though North's an only pup, I don't know if I'd call another pet his "brother" or "sister." Hmm. And all that brings me to my final example – my college boyfriend's mother would refer to the family dog as his brother. Eeks! At what point do you think this is going too far? After you take the poll, I wanna hear all about it in your comments below.

Would You Go to a Bar With Your Dog?

As I've mentioned before, I've taken North almost everywhere and he seriously loves getting out and meeting people. But I seem to get a guilt trip whenever I go out without him to meet up with my pals for drinkies. And, apparently, I'm not the only one that has felt the pangs of guilt from their pup, cause now you can even take your pooch to the bar with you! Not just any bar - SkyBark in LA.

Although there are many bars that welcome dogs on outdoor patios (and a couple with dogs right inside), SkyBark is the only bar (that I know of) that was created just for you and your pups. You can mingle with other dog lovers over whiskey sours while your dogs play on the 3,000-square-foot "dance floor" and sip on doggie beers. The rooftop of Skybark overlooks the LA skyline, and seems like a pretty cool place to visit at least once. Would you bar hop with your pup?

Hands-Free Umbrella Makes Rainy Dog Walks Easy

So, if you hated that matching doggie 'brella set, there may be times when you don't want to pull on a parka, but don't want to get wet either. So I already addressed toilet paper and poor Bella's failed toilet training attempt of Milo and Minou but what about the toilet itself?! Many pets show interest in the ~~magical fountain~~ toilet . . . either drinking the water or, like this clever cat, flushing it! Do your pets exhibit any of these bizarre behaviors?
