I can't stand the rain, North can't stand the rain, and many of you also have pets that can't stand the rain. Even though it's a touch early for April showers, we've been drowning out here in SF. I've gathered up some chic ways to keep furry friends' fur dry, like this full-on rain suit. Bare Bones: Reflective Gear

Now that it's nearly dark by the time I get home from work, it's time to start thinking about reflective gear for my four legged pal. Not only are there some pretty stylish and highly reflective rain jackets that pets can throw on before leaving the house for the evening potty walk, but if your pooch isn't the coat wearing type, you can always attach a safety light to his harness or collar to make sure he's seen even on the rainiest or darkest of nights.

Holy Puffer! Mascot's Cold Weather Must Haves

It's Never Too Early For Fall Fashion: Idawg Bomber Jackets

I'm a true believer in planning ahead when it comes to fashion. My theory is it's never too early in August to check out autumn goodies, especially since New York Pet Fashion Week is right around the corner. As you can tell, I'm excited to get into the swing of things a little early. So when I saw Idawg's hot Fall line of bomber jackets, I instantly fell in love.

North would totally rock this Idawg Fader in Navy, keeping him warm and toasty on those misty San Francisco nights. And since Idawg is based up in rainy Washington state, I'm guessing they are quite the authority on wet-weather gear!

The first thing I looked for on this track jacket was a leash hole ('cause North's harness can make clothing options trickier) and was pleased to see that – and a fur guard! – on this zippy. Pet Rescue Jacket: Spoiled Sweet or Spoiled Rotten?

Don't be fooled – this pup isn't planning a costume of caught-in-a-torrential-downpour for Halloween this year. He's actually sporting a new, top-of-the-line pet rescue jacket (along with attached emergency kit and food pockets) at this week's Security and Safety Trade Expo in Tokyo. As cute as he looks in this get-up, the first thing that came to mind was the amount of time and patience it would take (in an emergency no less) to get this onto my squirmy guy. And, ranging between $238 and $425, that price tag is not so easy to swallow either. Would your pet stand for this? Would you?

Montcler Shows Off Shiny Jackets With Help From a Few Dogs

Do furry ad campaign stars make you want to buy the clothes off their backs? Montcler is hoping you do, since they have a few four-legged models helping them show off their new line of shiny jackets. I caught the ad in a New York Times portfolio piece on photographer Bruce Weber, who shot the high-end designer's new ad campaign, and immediately fell in love with the gaggle of canine subjects.

Although, I'm not quite sold on the shiny (and presumably pricey) outerwear, I have to admit, the ad was totally effective. I did a Google search looking for the Montcler doggy coats (which apparently don't exist), and ended up finding a few items I want in my closet this Fall. Montcler shoots, and scores, indeed.

To the Rescue: Does My Dog Need a Jacket?

I admit there's plenty of fashionable (and bizarre) dog clothing out there, but here's one of the most common questions I get: "Dogs have fur, isn't it silly to put anything else on them?" Well, the answer I give without fail is vague, but true: It depends. While a Samoyed in Minnesota may not need a heavy coat, it's possible that a Chihuahua may need one on a chilly night in the Valley. As a general guideline, smaller dogs with shorter coats will be more likely to need that extra layer than a larger, long-haired pet.
The best way to tell what your animal needs is to watch his behavior. If your Italian Greyhound is shivering or trying to enter every open door on his evening walk around the city, chances are, he'd appreciate an extra layer. Remember, more activity makes your pets warmer just like running will make you break into a sweat faster than a leisurely stroll, so a pup sitting outside will get colder than when chasing his pals around a NYC dog park. Use your judgment and don't let anyone else decide for you.

Broken Umbrellas Equal Stylish Raincoats

Desperately grasping a broken umbrella is one of the worst feelings I can think of . . . as is the accompanying sogginess. I've definitely been caught out in the rain and slammed the wire-jutting contraption into the trash as I slosh to work.Well, no more. See these adorable raincoats? They're made from recycled umbrellas! All jackets ($10 and up) are completely customizable – hood, no hood, felt, vintage, hand-picked linings, etc. – for your lucky, weather-resisting pup. Created by product designer Taryn Zychal, her two pugs serve as models but designs can come in sizes from XS to XXL.
