Pet Pic of the Day: What's Left of Myko's Stocking?

Obviously, Christmas is Myko's favorite time of year. Mostly cause there are lots of presents to be unwrapped - Santa sure does know how to make a pup happy!

Congrats to Myko and Wren for being chosen as our Pet Pic of the Day! Be sure to submit your favorite photos to our Pet Pics group - you may see your furry pals on the pages of PetSugar. Need to know how to get started? I'll tell you when you read more.
I know this looks like a lot of steps, but once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze!

First of all, join the Pet Pics group.
Click the pink "Share" menu on the top left side of the page.
Choose "Photos" and “Upload Photos."
Give your Gallery a “Title.”
Fill in the “Body” with details about your pet.
Click “Groups and Privacy" just below the "Search Title" box.
Choose the audience for your story to “Pet Pics!” in the dropdown menu.
Change channel to “Pets.”
Fill in tag field with relevant tags.
Click “I’m done” to submit content.

So join the Pet Pics group and share photos of your adorable pets! Yours just might end up on the PetSugar homepage!

Pet Pic of the Day: Myko Takes One For the Team

Although Myko doesn't really like boating (or water for that matter), he sucked it up, threw on his life jacket, and geared up for a day of fun. But once on the boat? He spent his time under mama's seat with a towel over his head. Ahh well, at least he got onboard!

Street Team: Tartar-Reducing Flossies

There are definitely times when it's hard to convince a pooch that teeth brushing is a fun activity. It's important to practice good oral hygiene for pets, and there are many different toys and treats that freshen his breath and clean his teeth in the process. Myko here gets very squirmy at just the idea of that brushing, and wren wants to keep the professional vet cleanings at a minimum (because of the necessary anesthesia). However, she located this great product seen here to help her IG get clean teeth and a treat in the process! Learn all about it when you read more.

You can find Flossies at well stocked pet stores or online – wren picked one up from a local shop whose owner's four-year-old pooch had bright, white teeth. She tells us:

It's made of beef tendon, and the bands of fibers really help to scrape plaque off a dog's teeth and between them, too (hence the name). I've really started to notice a difference after a few weeks of use. I cut the Flossie into five pieces, and he chews through each piece in about three days. Best of all, he loves it.

Black and White and Op Art All Over From Coach

What's black and white and op art all over? Why, this pet collection from Coach. Although it's making me a bit dizzy as I stare, I love the optical illusion-esque effect of the white Cs on the dark background.

While the tote's on the pricier side, $68 each for collar and leash isn't totally unreasonable. The collar comes in four sizes, but the carrier, leash, and coat are one size fits all (tiny) pets. I can see this pattern in particular popping on a pearly Maltese or a leggy Italian Greyhound - the raincoat is fabric lined with a soft leather trim for lil pups staying dry . . . and fabulous. To the Rescue: Does My Dog Need a Jacket?

I admit there's plenty of fashionable (and bizarre) dog clothing out there, but here's one of the most common questions I get: "Dogs have fur, isn't it silly to put anything else on them?" Well, the answer I give without fail is vague, but true: It depends. While a Samoyed in Minnesota may not need a heavy coat, it's possible that a Chihuahua may need one on a chilly night in the Valley. As a general guideline, smaller dogs with shorter coats will be more likely to need that extra layer than a larger, long-haired pet.
The best way to tell what your animal needs is to watch his behavior. If your Italian Greyhound is shivering or trying to enter every open door on his evening walk around the city, chances are, he'd appreciate an extra layer. Remember, more activity makes your pets warmer just like running will make you break into a sweat faster than a leisurely stroll, so a pup sitting outside will get colder than when chasing his pals around a NYC dog park. Use your judgment and don't let anyone else decide for you.

Street Team: Pill Pockets

I've never heard of a single person complain about how much their pups love medicine. Lucky for me, North's never needed to take a pill, but I wonder if I could trick him with the traditional pill-in-peanut-butter trick. He may love the PB, but he's still one smart cookie. When wren shared this great product with our street team, I couldn't wait to pass it along to all of you.

A couple of years ago her pooch Myko was on pain pills after a surgery, and it was such a nightmare! As she tried putting them in all different types of food, after a few times, he'd catch on and she'd have to switch it up. In the end, she resorted to placing the pill in the back of his throat, holding his mouth closed until he swallowed – poor thing!

Flash forward to now – this time around when her Italian Greyhound needed to swallow a pill twice a day, she started putting them in these Pill Pockets ($7.99) . . . turning the meds into a treat for her pup! The pungent chicken and beef flavors (likely) have a strong flavor to mask the pill, and he hasn't caught on yet to this tasty treat in disguise!
