Will You Go See Hotel For Dogs in Theaters?

The Hotel For Dogs isn't a swank, professionally run facility, but instead one started by two driven children (Emma Roberts and Jake T. Austin) who let their imaginations run wild when finding an abandoned hotel on a quest for a safe home for their pooch, Friday. I got a sneak peek at this film – opening Jan. 16 – and must say: I. Loved. It.

First off, you've gotta go in with an open mind (obviously, this couldn't really happen), but I can't remember a film with more insanely cute dogs doing insanely cute things (kissing, pouting, posing, etc.). This is definitely the one time to round up any children in your life and use them as your excuse . . . if you need one. Most of the dogs were discovered (read: rescued), then trained to be actors in a noisy crash course – check out a behind-the-scenes clip below.

Bring Home One of the Furry Faces From Hotel For Dogs!

Since scoping the trailer for the upcoming Hotel for Dogs film, I couldn't wait to learn the names of all the four-legged cast members we spotted (refresh your memory here). A couple of the film's human stars – Jake T. Austin and Emma Roberts – made a special stop earlier this week to promote the movie and show a whole line of special-edition stuffed animals at FAO Schwarz.

In addition to ones depicting Friday, Romeo and Juliet seen here, check out the cute toys to treat kids this Holiday season – let them get all their cuddles in while waiting for the film to open in January.

With Nickelodeon stars Emma Roberts (from Unfabulous) and Jake T. Austin (the voice of Diego on Go, Diego, Go!), the duo finds an abandoned hotel and their imaginations run wild! Out and About: Colorado's Little Nell

Aspen has no shortage of chichi resorts for your chichi pals but few others (excluding the St. Regis) come close to the perks of Little Nell. Offering 26 "ski in, ski out" residences at the base of the mountain, they've got a pet package to rival any in town. First up, you'll get a copy of their own Petiquette handbook with guidelines for pets and owners along with lists and reviews of recommended animal-friendly hiking trails. When you arrive, find a cozy bed for each of you and, if your trip was too long, order room service and rest up before exploring the town's offerings. Off their in-room dining menu, I recommend treating your pooch (or even a borrowed one) with a "Puppy’s Jet Lag Kit" including custom gourmet doggie biscuits and his own pet menu - tenderloin of beef with eggs and rice, grilled chicken breast with carrots and brown rice, or grilled salmon with scrambled eggs - served up on a custom place mat and bowl set. When you're ready to explore, add personalized brass ID tags, and walk him yourself (or use their services) then get him cleaned up with their recommended groomers. While it used to be free of charge, a $100 charge per room applies for guests visiting with their pets . . . but that includes up to two hours of pet sitting!

Ways to Keep Halloween Fun, Not Frightful, For Furry Friends

The decorations are up and the candy's bought, but have your prepped your pets for this big day? Remember never force an animal into an outfit and keep him out of harm's way.

Who are you? Where am I? Costumes are scary and seeing Mom and Dad in masks or other bizarre ensembles can freak out your furry family (and kids). Similarly, all those spooky decorations, especially those that move and talk are equally frightful for observant pups.
No loose animals today. Don't leave pets in your yard on Halloween and bring indoor/outdoor cats inside. Disguises can cause people to behave differently and you don't want a pet to be teased, injured, scared (or worse!) by pranksters tonight.

Get two more tips when you read more.

Crowd control. If your pet will accompany your family trick-or-treating or to a parade, watch out for tiny pups under big feet. Make sure your dog is OK with strangers and noise before you set out and return home immediately if you see pooch is stressed. If you're throwing a pet-friendly bash, keep candy and chocolate away and follow these tips.
Minimal stress spots only. I know North freaks out at the doorbell and, if I lived in an area with trick-o-treaters, I would drop him off at a pet hotel for the night. If you think a pooch will get panicked by the constant buzzer, or frustrated that he can't go out, either sequester him in another part of the house away from candy or place a sign on the doorbell asking for knocks only, please.

Take It "To-Go" With Ikea!

Let's set the scene: You're planning a weekend getaway, but you want to travel light. Not so light as to leave your precious Fido home, but light enough that you're not toting his fragile bowls, fluffy bed . . . or the kitchen sink. While there are plenty of pricey portable bowls for this purpose, check out one complete package from Ikea.

The Bästis 4-piece travel kit for dogs ($20) comes with two bowls - while I wouldn't recommend doing this for water, you can cinch and seal the food bowl for later or fold up both for your pocket. There's also a storage bag - I smell extra food or a few fave toys - and a bed base. You can combine that with a towel or folded blanket, if you don't want to lug the real thing, or do double-duty using the base as a placemat instead (to protect the hotel room's carpet from his sloshy sipping). No matter which way you spin it and how far your journey is, this twenty bucks goes a long way.

Out and About: Sydney's Swank PawPaws Urban Retreat

North and I have never been Down Under but, if we ever make it there, the new PawPaws Urban Retreat is first on our list. The grand-opening (complete with a green carpet) welcomed pampered pals and their people to a three-floor hotel for dogs in Sydney.

Not only do the services sound pretty sweet (doggie detox!) – and the design looks impeccable – but the location includes a rooftop playground and spa with nannies, chauffeurs, and even a concierge to make sure your lil one is well-taken care of in your absence. This is the first establishment of its kind in Australia, which reportedly has one of the highest pet ownership levels in the world with around 40 percent of households including at least one dog, with an estimated 3.75 million dogs in the country.

Do Pets' Bedtime Rules and Routines Change on Vacation?

Let's pretend you're taking a nice weekend getaway and bringing your animal with you – lucky dog! You'll be staying at a hotel that includes a pet deposit, cleaning fee, . . . and big, comfy bed. Now if your precious pal's like North, he doesn't get to snuggle under the covers at home, but I definitely bend those rules while traveling. In fact, plenty of fancy boarding spots give pets a taste of a life in the lap of luxury and come complete with flat screen TVs and full sized beds just for them (as seen above). I've never noticed any negative effects when we return to our home but have you ever had a situation like this come back to bite you? Share which rules you relax, and ones you keep, in the comments below.
