Sep 9 2008 - 7:00am In California, it's not unusual to get some pretty hot temps in September, and last weekend was no exception. LilPeaPod took Samson camping for the first time, and not only was he totally overwhelmed with nature, it was also super hot. It's pretty well known that
smooshies don't do well with heat or swimming, so taking a dip in the lake was out of the question.

it's too cold here to need to "cool down" haha!
1great tips for my puggy...bailey can swim, so it is not as much of an issue. we have a life vest for jager so he can join in on the fun too.
2i was at an agility trial this weekend in 100+ degree temps. they had small tubs and pools filled with water for the dogs. my sheltie walked right up to the tub and jumped in ... just standing there letting the water cool him - it was very funny. the water was deep, too, so half his body was underwater. he must have been really hot to hop in there all on his own.
3Where I live it's 100+ most of the year so we don't get to hang out outside as much as I wish we did. We put ice cubes in B-Bops water so that it's always really cold and he always lies down on the tile, not the rugs or anything. I can't wait for it to start cooling down so we can go to the dog park more often!
4We go to the pond on really hot days. Joe loves to swim. Then it's home to the AC and a Frosty Paw. If it is too hot and humid, we actually minimize outdoor time. I can't imagine running around with all that fur on.
5Our dog loves the water, in the summer we fill up his kiddy pool (1/2 way) and leave it under the shady part of our yard (we dump it at night so the mosquitoes don't go into it) when we get home we put on the sprinklers and let him go nuts! We have a doggy door so he can go in/out to the garage to cool off.
6Love this pic! So cute!
7I put ice cubes in their water bowl (I have indoor cats). And they really liked sleeping in my closet, where it was always cool.
8Pet - I wonder, are ice cubes bad for dog's teeth the way they are bad for my teeth? (how chewing them ruins your enamel)
9That's the biggest stick EVAR!
10Be careful when giving your pets ice cubes. I have two pugs and my vet recommended that I avoid giving them ice cubes at all times. He told me that many pet owners have killed their overheated pugs by giving them ice cubes. Bottom line, talk to your vet first.
