Feed the Birds: Fruit Feeder and Jelly

There are many birdies that like fruit . . . and not just smoothies! To offer up this treat in your backyard choose a feeder with spikes for actual fruit, trays for jelly and, if you're brave with the squirmies, a spot for mealworms. I like this feeder ($24.95) because once again you can see feathered friends from any treeless home - all you need is a window!

To find out which fruit to use – and who will come to dinner – when you read more.

Simply cut or halve apples, oranges, peaches, nectarines, grapefruit, or melons and add to the copper spikes and fill the little dishes with grape jelly as a special treat rather than a diet staple as it's richer in sugars than natural fruit. The backyard dwellers looking for a sweet snack include:

Orioles

Tanagers

Mockingbirds

Bluebirds

Thrashers

Cardinals

Woodpeckers

Jays

Starlings

Thrushes

Cedar waxwings

Yellow-breasted chats

Cute Alert: Dog Dives Into Watermelon Headfirst!

If I had to caption this picture, I'd say nomnomnom for sure. The cute puppy found himself a sweet snack and dove right in. Hey, maybe he's just that hungry.

In case you were wondering, seedless watermelon is not on the doggie toxicity list and wasn't included in either of my poison fruits or even more poison fruits quizzes. However, the red melon does have an (un)healthy amount of sugar in it, like many fruits, so it can cause runny poo if your pooch eats too much, too often. Ick. See an even more adorable photo of this pooch when you read more.

Freeze Up an Easy Treat For Rabbits!

Dogs aren't the only ones who enjoy some frozen goodness of the fruit or the peanut butter varieties. In honor of today's wriggly nosed ruler, I created a specially sweet treat for those silent creatures. They're yummy for bunnies' tummies but don't treat rabbits to too many - nobody likes a tubby bunny!

Dare I call it bunny-liciousness?! Yup, I sure do so read more.

Frozen Bunny Deliciousness
PetSugar Original

Simple snack to treat my floppy eared pals and you can eat the leftovers!

Ingredients

Banana
Apple
Peanut Butter
Almonds

Directions

Mash 1/2 banana (and discard the peel).

Peel and dice up 1/4 apple (and discard the skin and seeds).

Combine banana and apple and stir in enough peanut butter to make a solid, yet sticky mass. (I used about 2 T.)

Roll into balls, place on aluminum foil, and top with one almond each.

Freeze and treat your funny bunny to no more than a couple of these treats per week!

Double the Baby Coatis, Double the Fun!

These two kits reside in Hanover, Germany where their lil hog noses already sniff out the available goodies. The raccoon-related mammals love fruit (as evidenced) and also enjoy insects and small mammals.
They feed by using their long noses, poking them under rocks and into crevices, and using their long claws to dig for buried treasures.
Do Your Pets Have Allergies?

Uh-oh, little smooshy Samson has a problem, and the name is pollen! LilPeaPod took Samson to the vet over the long weekend, having lately noticed lots of sneezing, droopy and goopy eyes, and one other interesting symptom: red, itchy paws. After a few painless skin tests, she found out that Samson has allergies!

Right now is the height of pollen season, and allergies aren't just for humans. Your pets can inhale lots of pollen as they walk with their noses to the ground and even be allergic to grass, just like Samson is. If you notice your pets licking their paws, scratching their face, or even an extra wet nose in the Spring and Summer, they may have allergies. Thankfully, it can be relieved with (pet-safe) antihistamines so your pets can enjoy the fruits of Spring, just like the rest of us.

Cloud Star Farmstand Slices Send Pups to Cloud Nine

There are so many tempting treats out there for pets, but it's tricky when we're drawn to ones we'd want to eat ourselves based on looks . . . with no clue what's inside. That's not the case with these nutritious treats minus artificial colors or flavors – they're human-grade ingredients meant for healthy pets. Cloud Star Farmstand Slices in Apple ($6) or Carrot ($6) are made from dehydrated fruit and veggies just for furballs – simply offer whole to bigger dogs or break up into tiny training treats, too. Yum!

PetSugar Street Team: Kids 'N' Pets Stain and Odor Remover

It just goes to say that even the most well trained pet can still have an accident. Be it an unforeseen, emergency potty break or reverse sneezing turned vomit, getting the stain and the smell totally out is key to preventing a repeat performance in that spot. TeamSugar member wren shared this outstanding solution of Kids 'N' Pets Stain and Odor Remover with the PetSugar Street Team:

I've tried a few and finally found one that really works –it's my new favorite thing. With other stain/odor removers, my dog would go back to the stain and sniff it, so I know the odor wasn't removed. Since using this, he doesn't. It works so fast and easy – I just pour over the stain, leave for a few minutes, and blot up with a cloth. It's worked on all my stains so far, dog-related or not, even fruit punch!

Sounds sweet – I'm thinking I may need to keep a bottle on hand 'cause I've been known to spill stuff, too!
