Fall's coming and although we've tackled poisonous Summer wildflowers, that season's (sadly) almost done. Let's get into the Fall spirit by looking at more flowers - each of these either begin blooming in autumn or continue through September (or later!) in some climates, so check out the pretty plants and see how well you do!

Kitty Lovers, Just Say "No Thanks" to Easter Lilies!

I've shared doggy dangers lurking in your Easter basket, but I wanted to remind you about a popular holiday flower that should never be brought into a home that includes cats.

Easter lilies are one of the most poisonous flowers for kitties. In fact, just one or two leaves or flowers can fatally harm a feline so, even if you think your pet will show no interest in this plant, please take no chances. This lily (along with Tiger, Asiatic, and other varieties) causes depression then vomiting, loss of appetite, and loss in body weight with the first symptoms showing up within 30 minutes . . . and acute renal failure coming at about 48 hours post-ingestion.

Please brush up on the ASPCA toxic plant list (and have their poison control hotline on hand) and rush any pet you fear has gotten a hold of this stem to the doctor immediately!

Dog Days of Summer: Just Say No to Cocoa Mulch

Don't let a nosy pooch sniff around or dig up any flowers you haven't planted yourself! If Summer travels take you to new parks or yards, double check that the gardens don't use cocoa mulch, a common fertilizer made from poisonous cocoa beans. Just like chocolate, it contains theobromine, a chemical that can cause vomiting, muscle tremors, or even death to furry friends. If you're planning your own late-blooming garden, be certain to also brush up on poisonous plants, and pick out some of our pet safe suggestions instead.

Spring Cleaning: Plant a Pet Safe Garden

You may (or may not know) that some plants can be toxic to pets if they get the urge to munch the flowers and plants you keep around the house and garden. Even some of the most common flowers like Baby's Breath, which come in many arrangements, can be unassuming but totally harmful to your pets if ingested. Thankfully, the ASPCA has a complete list of plants that are a-ok and safe for plant-snacking pets, even if it wears down your patience! This Spring, when you are planting your garden, make sure that you double check the list for any plants that would look great in your yard . . . but can do major damage on your cat or dog's tummy. Pet Peeves: Kitty Eats My Plants!

Q: I love having fresh flowers and plants in my house, but my two cats always try to eat them! I know some are poisonous, and I never put those types out. I just would like to have a house plant in my home without them eating it! Any suggestions on breaking their habit?

A: I'm so glad you've checked out which plants are poisonous for your pets! Unfortunately, many kitties are drawn to plants as a snack – offer up some safe kitty plants to lure them away from yours. Many cats don't like the feel or sound of aluminum foil under their paws, so try to place that under your plants. If that still doesn't work, try using these home remedies on the mulch or plant:

Lemon juice and water spray
Pepper and water spray
Tea leaves
Pinecones
Halves of oranges or lemons
Grapefruit, orange, or lemon-peel shavings
