Hand-Dyed Dog Collars For Just $35!

I first learned about Jon Wye during my chat with The Lazy Environmentalist - although they're best known for a line of leather belts, he also offers some super-unique doggie collars by FREDFRED. Priced at $35, the leather is 100 percent full grain (no composite here) and all designs are hand-dyed with numerous layers to get the rich hues and shades in each item. They've got a bunch of unique patterns and designs, but I've gotta go bananas - monkey see, monkey do. No matter what pattern you choose for your pup they're all coated with the same treatment that covers your car's leather upholstery. So no matter the messes he gets in, the pretty piece's protected.

Mama-to-be Sarah Michelle Gellar still takes rather good care of her first furkid, Tyson. Between trips to the vet and walks around town, no prepared lady would find herself without protection and this time, the pup helps carry his own business bags in a rockin' carrier.

The black dispenser with skulls ($6) makes a stylish addition, although she leaves the bonus roll off and simply uses the Velcro straps to attach it to his lead. Plus, with biodegradable bags included, she's lookin' out for the future, too.

Simple Soda Bottle Bird Feeder Isn't Squirrel-Friendly

Back in 1984, a designer by the name of Norman Earl created the aptly-named Soda Bottle Bird Feeder ($15). The cast zinc contraption seen on the right is an eco-tastic solution - simply fill any two-liter plastic jug with seed to feed chickadees, robins, and other birds that favor hanging feeders. Better yet, it solidly screws on to keep those unwanted four-legged ~~pests~~ guests like squirrels out of the flutter's dining establishment.

I know what an investment a dog bed can be. You pick out just the right size, color, shape, and feel, then dig into your pocketbook cause your furry friend is totally worth the price. Follow host Josh Dorfman on a quest to save the planet - "one wasteful couch potato at a time" - with his new show The Lazy Environmentalist! Premiering tonight (June 16, 9 p.m.) on the Sundance Channel, the premise is that most people would live an earth-friendly lifestyle. . . . if it were as easy and cost effective as their current choices.

For the first episode, Josh tackles dog grooming and suggests these two natural products. I've seen that facial ($17) before and turns out the blueberries naturally brighten white fur - counterintuitive, huh? The second product was "neem." PetSugar Street Team: True Blue Super Fresh Shampoo

Good thing there are plenty of other dog owners in the office, otherwise North would have a serious case of dandruff! I've been wanting to test out all the shampoos I've had stashed in my desk for a while now, but if I bathe my pup too often, his skin gets flaky and dry. Thankfully, Samson was good and stinky (and needed to be fresh and clean for our Dog Day on the Bay) when I asked LilPeaPod to test out True Blue's Super Fresh Grapefruit and Chamomile Shampoo ($13).

I liked the fact that True Blue was not only detergent-free, but is never tested on animals, is hypoallergenic, and is even safe for the earth - right down to the biodegradable bottle. What did our tester like about this shampoo, besides the fact that it smells divine? Find out if it's anything to bark about, and check out Samson's coat in a before and after when you read more.

At first sniff, True Blue smells like something out of a fresh botanical garden, but it doesn't overpower your nose. Good thing, since Samson isn't into all that flowery stuff - he prefers grass and dirt over roses and lilies. Getting the shampoo out of the bottle was easy enough (there's nothing worse than straining with wet hands to squeeze product onto your slippery and anxious dog), and it lathered up quite nicely.

With some dog shampoos, I've found that I have to put a ton on him to feel like I'm getting enough lather and coverage, but True Blue went the distance. It even rinsed off really quickly, just like the bottle promised. Plus, it didn't leave a film on his coat, and after he dried off he was silky and shiny, and didn't smell like a wet dog! Fancy that.
