Hand-Dyed Dog Collars For Just $35!

I first learned about Jon Wye during my chat with The Lazy Environmentalist - although they're best known for a line of leather belts, he also offers some super-unique doggie collars by FREDFRED. Priced at $35, the leather is 100 percent full grain (no composite here) and all designs are hand-dyed with numerous layers to get the rich hues and shades in each item. They've got a bunch of unique patterns and designs, but I've gotta go bananas - monkey see, monkey do. Follow host Josh Dorfman on a quest to save the planet - "one wasteful couch potato at a time" - with his new show The Lazy Environmentalist! Premiering tonight (June 16, 9 p.m.) on the Sundance Channel, the premise is that most people would live an earth-friendly lifestyle. . . . if it were as easy and cost effective as their current choices.

For the first episode, Josh tackles dog grooming and suggests these two natural products. I've seen that facial ($17) before and turns out the blueberries naturally brighten white fur - counterintuitive, huh? The second product was "neem." Broken Umbrellas Equal Stylish Raincoats

Desperately grasping a broken umbrella is one of the worst feelings I can think of . . . as is the accompanying sogginess. I've definitely been caught out in the rain and slammed the wire-jutting contraption into the trash as I slosh to work.Well, no more. See these adorable raincoats? They're made from recycled umbrellas! All jackets ($10 and up) are completely customizable – hood, no hood, felt, vintage, hand-picked linings, etc. – for your lucky, weather-resisting pup. Created by product designer Taryn Zychal, her two pugs serve as models but designs can come in sizes from XS to XXL.

DIY Dreaming: Could You Re-Create This Dog Bed Made of Old Flip-Flops?

Regardless of how bad they are for my feet, I can't get enough of flip-flops and own more pairs than I'd care to count up. So, my flipping and flopping obsession aside, when I spotted this super-cute dog bed on TrendHunter, I saw a DIY project in the making for all my old shoes. Stay with me here . . . Since the bed's created by Australian designer Ilya Frieman, I'm not sure where (and if) you can buy this creation stateside, but it illustrates a good enough case for me to want to test it out. Not only does rubber attract and hold dog hair, it's much easier to keep clean than fabric beds. Get started on your own version by gathering up 18 flip-flops, popping out the thong part, and using an X-Acto knife to divide the flat part into fourths.

For this fancy model, the new rubbery part will eventually fit into that base for another pet-friendly hammock, but I'm betting you could (nontoxic) glue the shoe pieces together to make a rubbery, easily washed dog mat perfect for Summer. What do you think about attempting this project at home?

Why Do Dogs Eat Grass?

Hello sunshine, and goodbye apartment – North and I will be taking plenty of outdoor adventures as the weather's looking up for the weekend! Although my pup usually trots along happily beside me – except when greeting any and all passersby – there are times when he lays on the grass and tries to take a nibble.
Always up for a little education, I consulted my pals at PetMD to see what's up with his impromptu sidewalk salads. Since dogs are omnivores, they like a bit of the grassy stuff and can even use the blades of grass to soothe upset stomachs and add nutrients to diets. While most experts say this is OK, sometimes pups who eat a little too much . . . throw it back up afterward. In addition to adding veggies to your pets' diet to increase "good" roughage, see one more idea to up the greens when you read more.

Since you never know what else is on that lawn you walk by, order up nutrient-packed wheatgrass seeds for your home. Simply plant in a decorative floor pot and let your furry friend take a nibble when he wants – what a sweetly eco-tastic touch for springtime!

Pampered Pals: Reknitz Dog Sweaters

Made of reclaimed cotton fibers, the path from each sweater's eco-tastic origin to the final product is fascinating. Reknitz ($38) separates pre-consumer textile table remnants into raw fibers that are then blended with 24 percent new acrylic fibers and spun into yarn. That's cool but my favorite part is that the color options don't come from dyes but instead from the (skilled) mixing of textile cuttings to create the lovely hues from what's available.
