Mmmm! Pick Pumpkin Pie Pops

Thanksgiving's right around the corner - have you downloaded our planner yet? Now, I remember those adoro pies for finicky felines, but let your gourd-loving pups in on a lil, three-word secret: Pumpkin Pie Pops ($5).

Made of organic ingredients good enough for humans, the pumpkin snacks are topped with all-natural, veggie-food-colored yogurt. I can see a pooch being a-OK with this treat, since he can't have sugary pie and, as long as you take off the stick, it's totally safe for pups (and corn free). Did I mention you could eat it? Mmm, yeah that's all I can think about.

With the poison potential packed into some veggies, it's good to keep up on the safe list of human food OKed for pets. Now, I've raved about frozen carrot bits in the past, but equally good are lil frozen peas.

The green circles work well as tiny training treats - they're small and easy to digest, but still better (calorie-wise) than using the same number of most doggie yums. Next time you're getting your dog to sit, lie down, or shake, trying asking with some pretty peas, please.

Doggies Sit and Stay For a Bit O Luv Beef Jerky Treats

I just couldn't resist putting up this picture of little Samson as he sat nicely and waited for his Bit O Luv Bistro Beef dog treat. It's just too cute! Bit O Luv's philosophy about dogs not just being pets, but being a part of your family, goes right in line with my own. So naturally, I wanted to give the treats a shot. Well, not me, but Samson and North anyway.

Bit O Luv makes all their treats here in the US without any by-products or fillers. And their jerky? Slow roasted. Sounds better than some of the things that I eat on occasion. If Samson's excitement to eat the jerky bits was any indication (well, let's face it - this guy doesn't discriminate), I think your doggie will love them too. Just make sure you check the feeding instructions on the back of the package so you don't overdo it. Just cause your pup is a good boy, doesn't mean he should be overweight too!

If You Get Waterlogged, Prevent Mucky, Yucky Treats With This

Treats: don't leave home without them. But, if your travels bring you by water, the risk of soggy yums enters the dining scene. Even though undiscerning pooches will still gobble them up, it's not as pleasant for owners to find these smushed in a pocket or sticking to a purse. I know, 'cause I've been there.

Since boats and beaches can be wet and sandy, don't add in dirt to the equation with this simple trick. Use an empty and fully dried water bottle to store some tiny training treats (like these). Easy to find and less mess, toss the container in your bag and you're ready to set sail!

Since he gets treated to the freshly ground stuff, I know that's safe . . . but, take note, of the PB related recall of PetSmart's "Grreat Choice® Dog Biscuit" products that contain peanut paste made by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA).

'Tis the season of giving and my pup's wagging tail tells me homemade snacks definitely get the message across! TeamSugar member kristyy is team captain for a Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy Services site, and wants to treat the 20 pups in her group with something she baked up herself.

I'm recommending North's fave four ingredient snack recipe – grab a pet-themed cookie cutter and festive holiday baggies or cellophane and get started when you read more.

Simple Simon's Birthday Bones
From the Three Dog Bakery Cookbook
2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup natural peanut butter
1 cup skim milk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a bowl, combine flour and baking powder. In another bowl, mix peanut butter and milk. Add wet mixture to dry, and mix well. Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll out to 1/4-inch thick and cut out shapes. Place on a greased baking sheet and bake 20 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool on a rack then store in an airtight container.
Makes 30 large bones

Real Meat Treats Not "Meat-Flavored"

If Samson even knew what I was writing about, I bet his lil mouth would be watering – after all, he totally loved those wild-salmon yummies! Similarly, these healthy dog treats all feature a first ingredient that's surely also number one on your dog's list: meat. Each variety features three skinny layers of codfish (rich in vitamins A and D and omega 3s and 6s) and two thick ones of actual meat blended with sweet potatoes (high in potassium).
