Viewers' Choice: Westminster Redo?

As dog lovers but not necessarily dog experts, we tend to root for breeds we like, dogs we've seen, or just those pups that are looking extra cute. Many times, I can be disappointed when a dog I think is super-adorable doesn't win – I'm not exactly up on each breed's ideal, after all. Let Them Eat Steak . . . And by "Them" I Mean Stump

Stump would like the steak please. Oops, you lost a bit there, buddy. That's right in addition to a catapult to popularity for the country's reigning Best In Show, Stump got his choice of a juicy steak or tender chicken breast for a special snack. BTW, that's not just any bit of meat either – it was served up at Charlie Palmer's Metrazur restaurant at Grand Central Terminal as part of a charity brunch yesterday.

As part of the second annual event, he also got a bag with extraordinary swag . . . and more photos. Can you blame them 'cause what a little ham he's turning out to be.

Super-Cute Gallery: It's All About Stump Now!

Last night this pup made all kinds of history being the first Sussex Spaniel and the oldest dog ever to win Westminster. I think Stump's rather stumptastic and my favorite thing about this pup is hands down (paws up) this trick. Doesn't he look like he's pretending to be a stump posing like that?!

As cute as the pup was in the show ring at MSG, his life hasn't been easy. Although he won the Sporting group when he last competed in 2004, he got a mysterious illness shortly thereafter – "his whole body completely quit" – and spent 19 days in a Texas A&M hospital before being miraculously cured. Since then he's just been hanging out and doing whatever he wants to do . . . and, last night, he wanted to win.

2009 Westminster Winner: Best in Show!

It's the moment I've been waiting for! The results are in for all seven groups. I've listed the competing pups and the last time their breed took Best in Show at Westminster:

Stumpy! I mean, Stump, is the Best in Show at the 133rd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show! The oldest winner in the history of Westminster at 10 years old, this Sussex Spaniel last won his group in 2004! I'll be following up with more info and photos of this cute fella as soon as he digs – I mean I dig – it up! Until then, we salute you, Champion "Clussexx Three D Grinchy Glee."

2009 Westminster Winners: Working Group

Typically powerful and intelligent, the working pups truly have jobs to do. From police and guard assistance to amazing rescues, these "gentle giants" are big favorites getting big results. In the top four this year, you may not recognize that breed on the bottom right. That's a Tibetan Mastiff, first shown at last year's Westminster, and already placing in his group. Kudos!
Sadly neither he nor the newest breed this year won the group. Learn who did when you read more.

It's the pretty Giant Schnauzer, Spirit. She's certainly lovely and serves as the last competitor from our final group to compete in this year's Best in Show.

2009 Westminster Winners: Toy Group

The epitome of a companion dog, the toys are obviously known for their small size. Which of the spunky dogs – maybe a smooshy – will pop to the top? Well, if you remember the recent AKC/Eukanuba show, you'll know which pooch comes in no. 1 here . . . or if you gamble as the commentators said this pup is "Vegas' pick" to win the whole thing. It's Lincoln, the Brussels Griffon. He won the toy group back in Dec. and is quite the dapper gentleman, wouldn't you say?

2009 Westminster Winners: Sporting Group

Welcome to Day Two of Westminster kicking off with the Sporting group. Made up of dogs that point the game with their noses (i.e., the pointers), flush the game out (i.e., the spaniels), and then retrieve the game (i.e., the retrievers), these pooches are bred to be busy bees. Bonus points for getting my movie joke there. But I digress. There are some stunners in this group with two of the country's most popular breeds making the final cut. Who came out on top? The super-cute Sussex Spaniel was the big winner! I have to say the cute fella won me over with his name – I dare you to look at this pup or try to say "Stump" without smiling. Impossible.

Westminster Gallery: Countdown to Best in Show

I've been monitoring the breed results all day from the Westminster Kennel Club 'cause I can hardly wait for the rest of the show. If you can't get enough of the cute doggies (like me, yup, obsessed), I've gathered a bunch of adoro behind-the-scenes pictures from the big apple. We've already seen winners from the Hound, Terrier, Non-Sporting, and Herding groups and tonight at 8 p.m. (live from NYC but tape delayed for other time zones), we'll see the rest of the finalists compete.

2009 Westminster Winners: Herding Group

Herding dogs are the pups that typically work on farms to round up livestock . . . or pretty much anything that moves! The top finishers include one pup that made it this far last year, the same type as owned by a past president, an Old English one, and the breed that I best remember from a classic Bud Light Super Bowl commercial.

2009 Westminster Winners: Non-Sporting Group

It's the group closest to my heart, the hodge-podge Non-Sporting pups! Of course, no Boston Terriers placed in the top four – North says robbed as usual! – but I do see two other smooshies up there, including an Annabelle lookalike.Between the 18 pups that don't quite fit into any of the other six groups, which of these dogs captured the title? No real surprise to me as "Yes" the Standard Poodle, who won this group at the last two AKC/Eukanuba shows (but lost to Remy last year), captures the Non-Sporting group for 2009. I was really pulling for those smooshies, too – next year, I can feel it!
