New Puppy Alert! Martha Stewart Names Genghis Khan

Well, we've been waiting for word on which lil Chow Chow Martha Stewart would be adding to her family, and she's finally made her choice! Meet Genghis Khan, this adoro grandson of the late Paw Paw. He's just seven weeks old and the only boy in his litter (with two sisters) – I wonder if lil Sharkey and Francesca are ready for him?!

Turns out Martha waited for another litter so those pups we saw her cuddling with before (including a different pup named "Khan") have found other happy homes. Check out another cute shot of this pooch when you read more.

The Scoop: Martha Still Hasn't Picked Her Next Chow

Remember when I posted those pictures of the absolutely adoro Chow Chow pups that Martha Stewart's trying to choose from? Well, she's yet to make a decision but shared even more cute piccys on her blog . . . from when all three came to her farm for a visit!

I can't even imagine how she'll ever pick, though she's pointed out that three male chows wouldn't all survive in the same home so I guess keeping the entire trio's out of the question. Do you think you can tell which lil lion pup will join Sharkey and Francesca – look at the pictures and see for yourself!

Martha Picks One of Paw Paw's Grandpuppies!

My heart went out to Martha Stewart when she lost her beloved Chow Chow back in April. Even though she's still got those cutie-pie smooshies, Francesca and Sharkey, she's looking to add another pup to her family . . . a grandpuppy of Paw Paw! She's been sharing pictures on her blog, first when the pooches were just one day old and then when they reached five weeks. Now the three lil boys are almost ready to have happy homes at seven-and-a-half weeks, and Martha's still debating over the best addition. These lion doggies are so precious I can't imagine her picking only one, can you choose a fave?

The Passing of Paw Paw: Martha's Cute Chow Chow Dies

I'm saddened to report that one of Martha Stewart's precious pups, Kublai Khan Paw Paw Chow Chow Chow passed away on Saturday, April 12 at 12 years old. Martha shares on her blog:

Paw Paw was a spectacular chow and an even more spectacular dog. He was always my loyal companion, displaying the most agreeable temperament. Paw Paw loved traveling with me and was always a willing model for the camera. Even in his final days, Paw Paw just stopped eating and drifted off to deep sleeps, where he now rests peacefully, and, I’m most confident, quite happily. I will miss him, always.

Martha Stewart's New Puppy Dies In a Propane Explosion

Now that I'm on Twitter, I've been learning quite a bit about the people I'm following and, sadly, today I learned of a tragic accident. According to Martha Stewart's tweets, her new lil pup Ghenghis Khan passed away. In a "tragic propane explosion," the breeder lost 17 Chows both boarders and residents. Martha was waiting until a good time to bring the babe home from Karen Tracy and, while she didn't say there were any human fatalities, unfortunately her little puppy "perished in the blaze." We know all dogs go to heaven, and my heart goes out to Martha, the breeder, and everyone who loved those pups.

Groomer Has It Recap: "Chow Time"

I'd have to say the Quick Sniff Challenge segment was my fave part of the last episode of Groomer Has It. This week the remaining groomers had to create an impromptu, original dog snack for Mark Bodner, owner of Three Dog Bakery, to review. Bowls of essentials (wheat flour and cornmeal) were provided along with mix-ins like apples, carrots, yams, carob, and spices like cinnamon and coconut. In what Jonathan called "Iron Chef, Doggie-style," it was so funny to watch these nonchefs concoct treats for picky pups. Winners were judged on the tastiest – yes, they had to test their creations, too! – and most nutritious treats with Jessica coming out on top for committing to her treat and concept. She was the only one to choose a savory flavor and created a super-cheesy snack she couldn't stop snacking on herself.

In keeping with the "chow" theme, the groomers next had to put their talents to the test against one of the most notoriously tricky breeds to groom, the Chow Chow. Find out who came out as top dog when you read more.

Rebounding from a weak performance last week, Artist came out on top with Jasper close behind. I'm happy with this decision – and hope that it gives the super-funny and quirky Artist needed confidence booster to keep him strong in the weeks ahead (with only six groomers remaining)!

Chow Chair: Spoiled Sweet or Spoiled Rotten?

Trust me, my Photoshop skills are not good enough to fake this neat chair . . . slash dog bowl? The aptly-named Chow Chair ($60) comes hand-painted for a furry friend – shorties need not apply, there's only a 12-inch and 16-inch height available at the moment – what an interesting spot to place the kibble and teach table manners.

Now this would make a pretty awesome April Fools' Day joke if company comes callin' today to have a seat. Do I mean it or am I just mean? Tell me your thoughts on this fun-ctional item in the comments below.

Housecat Housecall Premieres This Saturday!

That's right, doggies aren't the only ones getting their own reality show! Stay tuned for a new show on Animal Planet called Housecat Housecall, where experienced vets help real families solve issues with their furry friends. I haven't gotten a sneak peek at the series yet, but I'm imagining it to be a bit like Supernanny for the four-legged parents who need HELP. Find out more, and catch a glimpse of its first feline star when you read more.

Experienced vets including Dr. Katrina Warren, an Australian celebrity vet (seen up top), and her colleagues Dr. Debbie Horwitz and Dr. Stacy Fuchino, help real families tackle those problems we know all too well like excessive licking and unwanted early morning wake-up calls. This is Obi-Wan, the feline that will star in the first episode – he's a cutey, wonder what his problem is? Not all kitties love the camera like Milo, so I'll bet it will be a tad tricky to catch the cats in "the act." Housecat Housecall airs on Animal Planet on Saturdays at 9 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Sundays.
