You know the holidays are here when the weather turns cold, there's an extra ten percent off at the mall, and you see random dogs walking around with Santa hats on. If these two are any indication, Christmas will be here in no time!
Congrats to Bailey, Jager, and hanako66 for being chosen as our Pet Pic of the Day!

I'm super excited for the next episode of Dogs 101 on Animal Planet. Airing every Saturday at 8 p.m., each show focuses on five dog types. Last week, we learned quite a bit about the following breeds – I've included a fun fact, and furry face, for each pooch.

Although some dogs don't like to share their toys, it's essential to share a window to the outside world when you're traveling by car. All those new smells are important to take in! It's a science really, kinda like wine tasting.

Well Sadie Frost certainly keeps busy between her FrostFrench clothing line, attending events overseas, and walking with her super-cute pooch. The paps caught up with this duo near their London home on May 6, and I'm curious if you know where the fuzzy Bichon's Beatle-inspired name came from? Test yourself with the choices below (and then see a closeup shot)!

It's the group closest to my heart, the hodge-podge Non-Sporting pups! Of course, no Boston Terriers placed in the top four – North says robbed as usual! – but I do see two other smooshies up there, including an Annabelle lookalike.Between the 18 pups that don't quite fit into any of the other six groups, which of these dogs captured the title?

Remember that poll to help America pick a pooch for Barack Obama? Although rescuing is usually a good option, his daughters suffer from allergies, meaning a hypoallergenic dog would do best in this home. Timed to coincide with his acceptance of the Democratic Party nomination, the AKC's released the results: a Poodle.

In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, once again Barack Obama declared that, win or lose, their family would be welcoming a new addition: a dog! It seems everyone has an opinion on which pooch he should choose as the AKC released a list of five hypoallergenic dogs for his daughters' allergies (Bichon Frise, Chinese Crested, Miniature Schnauzer, Poodle, or Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier), and even animal rights activists share their opinions. In a letter to the senator, PETA expressed their view on why Mr. Obama should be looking at shelters instead of breeders:
Millions of Great American Mutts — the dog that should be our national dog — are set to die in our nation's extremely overcrowded pounds and shelters for lack of good homes.

This hodge-podge collection has a special place in my heart for my little North is part of the Non-Sporting group! I learned during last night's show that, not only is it made up of pups that didn't fit any other group, originally there were just two groups – the Sporting and the Non-Sporting. As new groups formed and split off, first the Hounds and Terriers separated from the Sporting and the Toys and Working split from the Non-Sporting, with Herding later breaking away from the Working.
