Treats: don't leave home without them. But, if your travels bring you by water, the risk of soggy yums enters the dining scene. Even though undiscerning pooches will still gobble them up, it's not as pleasant for owners to find these smushed in a pocket or sticking to a purse.

All pets have baffling behavior of one kind or another but, until our weekend beach excursion, I'd totally forgotten North's peculiar propensity: He won't go potty on the sand!
My best guess is that the sand confuses him because the moment we get back to solid, paved ground, he promptly pees (and poos). For those of you lucky enough to have sandy spots nearby, what do your pets do .

Before we start a new state tomorrow, I couldn't forget to finish up with Connecticut! The rocky Bushy Point Beach is part of Groton's Bluff Point State Park, and was designated a 'Coastal Reserve' in 1975. This special act of the Connecticut legislature established the area "for the purpose of preserving its native ecological associations, unique faunal and floral characteristics, geological features, and scenic qualities in a condition of undisturbed integrity".

Each evening at dusk, you'll find people walking along Palm Beach Shores in Florida. It's not just because the ocean is pretty enough to warrant a daily visit, but they're looking for movement in sea turtle nests there. When volunteers locate an active nest, they lend helping hands to the leatherbacks and dig channels to create a clear pathway to water for the babies.

Welcome back to PetSugar's Out and About feature! After two weeks of holidays, we're starting up again in the midwest with the state of Illinois. Even though it's pretty chilly in Chicago at this time of year, pet owners still make the dog-friendly areas of the Chicago Park District full of life.

For many a sporty pup, Frisbees are custom made for catching. Now, if you're just getting a pup into the game, or like to play some Ultimate yourself on a sunny park or beach day, chances are you've got some extra discs lying around.
So waste not, want not and make that toy do double duty.
